Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Greet patrons with a warm and welcoming demeanor upon their arrival, serving as the first point of contact for their theatre experience.
  • Scan and validate tickets accurately at entry points, ensuring all guests have proper credentials for the performance.
  • Direct patrons to their assigned seats efficiently and courteously, providing assistance with navigating the theatre layout.
  • Distribute playbills, programs, and other informational materials to guests as they enter the auditorium.
  • Monitor audience activity during performances to discreetly address any disruptions, such as talking, phone usage, or late arrivals, in accordance with house policies.
  • Respond to patron inquiries regarding show details, run times, intermission schedules, theatre amenities, and local area information.
  • Operate concession stands, including processing cash and credit card transactions, managing inventory, and maintaining a clean and organized service area.
  • Manage the coat check service, ensuring the secure storage and accurate retrieval of patrons' personal belongings.
  • Provide dedicated assistance to patrons with accessibility needs, including guiding them to accessible seating, restrooms, and other facilities.
  • Enforce all house rules and safety protocols, including policies on photography, recording, and food and beverage, in a polite yet firm manner.
  • Act as a key member of the emergency response team, calmly guiding patrons during evacuations or other urgent situations under the direction of the House Manager.
  • Assist the Box Office team with will-call ticket distribution and resolve minor ticketing discrepancies for patrons on-site.
  • Maintain a constant state of readiness in all public-facing areas, including the lobby, restrooms, and auditorium, ensuring they are clean, safe, and presentable.
  • Liaise effectively between the Front of House Manager and Stage Management to communicate show holds, start times, and intermission cues.

Secondary Functions

  • Support the setup and breakdown of special events, donor receptions, and pre-show talks held within the theatre.
  • Conduct thorough pre-show and post-show walkthroughs of the entire venue to identify and report any maintenance, safety, or cleanliness issues.
  • Assist backstage crew with basic, non-technical tasks such as organizing props or moving small set pieces under direct supervision.
  • Manage and document lost-and-found items, making diligent efforts to return them to their rightful owners.
  • Compile and submit end-of-shift reports detailing concession sales, any incidents that occurred, and notable patron feedback.
  • Restock concession stands, merchandise booths, and restroom supplies at the end of a shift to prepare for the next performance.
  • Participate in regular staff meetings and training sessions on topics such as customer service excellence, safety procedures, and upcoming productions.

Required Skills & Competencies

Hard Skills (Technical)

  • Proficient in using Point of Sale (POS) systems for sales transactions.
  • Experience with ticket scanning hardware and software.
  • Strong cash handling and credit card processing skills.
  • Basic First Aid and/or CPR certification is a strong plus.
  • Knowledge of theatre etiquette and standard operating procedures.
  • Familiarity with basic inventory management principles.

Education & Experience

Educational Background

Minimum Education:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent GED.

Preferred Education:

Experience Requirements

Typical Experience Range:

  • 1-2 years of experience in a customer-facing role such as retail, hospitality, or live events.
