Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Extend a warm and professional welcome to all patrons upon their arrival, serving as the first point of contact and official ambassador for the venue.
  • Accurately and efficiently scan and validate guest tickets upon entry, verifying event details and providing clear directions to the appropriate auditorium or seating area.
  • Provide clear and courteous directions to various facility locations, including assigned seating, restrooms, concession stands, coat check, and other amenities.
  • Distribute programs, playbills, and other promotional or informational materials to guests as they enter the auditorium.
  • Proactively assist patrons in locating their seats, resolving any seating discrepancies or issues with a calm, helpful, and solution-oriented approach.
  • Diligently monitor the auditorium and public areas before, during, and after performances to identify and address any patron issues, disturbances, or safety concerns.
  • Graciously and firmly enforce all theatre policies, including those related to late seating, photography/videography, mobile phone usage, and outside food and beverage.
  • Provide dedicated assistance to patrons with disabilities, including support with accessible seating, distribution of assistive listening devices, and ensuring clear pathways.
  • Act as a knowledgeable resource for guests, answering questions regarding the performance, run times, intermissions, cast, and general venue information.
  • Manage crowd flow and maintain order during high-traffic periods, such as pre-show ingress, intermission, and post-show egress, ensuring a safe and pleasant experience for all.
  • Respond to and resolve guest complaints and concerns promptly and professionally, escalating complex issues to the House Manager or supervisor when necessary.
  • Remain vigilant and prepared to assist in the implementation of emergency procedures, including calmly directing patrons during an evacuation or other critical incidents.

Secondary Functions

  • Maintain the cleanliness, organization, and overall presentation of the lobby, hallways, and auditorium, including tidying up, wiping down surfaces, and reporting larger issues.
  • Perform detailed pre-show checks of the auditorium, ensuring seats are in good condition, the floor is clear of hazards, and house lighting is appropriate for guest arrival.
  • Conduct thorough post-show walkthroughs of the seating areas to collect lost and found items, clear any remaining debris, and prepare the space for the next audience or closing procedures.
  • Operate point-of-sale (POS) systems to sell concessions or merchandise, accurately handling cash, credit, and debit transactions while following all cash-handling policies.
  • Assist with coat check duties as assigned, including the secure tagging, storage, and retrieval of guest belongings in an efficient and organized fashion.
  • Set up and break down necessary equipment for crowd management and guest information, such as stanchions, ropes, and temporary signage.
  • Communicate effectively and professionally with all front-of-house staff, including box office, security, and management, to ensure a cohesive and seamless guest experience.
  • Promptly report any facility or equipment malfunctions, such as broken seats, lighting issues, plumbing problems, or safety hazards, to the appropriate supervisor.
  • Stay informed about current and upcoming productions, special events, and promotions to effectively promote future events and answer patron inquiries.
  • Assist with light stocking and inventory duties for concession stands or merchandise kiosks to ensure they are prepared for service periods.

Experience Requirements

Typical Experience Range:
