Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Provide continuous one-on-one and group support to clients, implementing therapeutic interventions and behavioral plans as designed and directed by the clinical staff.
  • Actively supervise clients during all daily activities, structured therapeutic sessions, and community outings to ensure a safe, secure, and consistently supportive environment.
  • Meticulously document client behaviors, progress towards specific treatment goals, and any significant incidents in the electronic health record (EHR) system with exceptional accuracy and timeliness.
  • Effectively utilize crisis prevention and de-escalation techniques (such as CPI or MANDT) to safely manage challenging behaviors and maintain the physical and emotional safety of all clients and staff.
  • Assist and coach clients in the development and practice of essential daily living skills, including personal hygiene, meal preparation, time management, and household chores, to foster greater independence.
  • Facilitate and lead therapeutic and recreational group activities aimed at enhancing clients' social skills, emotional regulation, and positive coping mechanisms.
  • Collaborate proactively with a multidisciplinary team—including therapists, case managers, nurses, and psychiatrists—by providing crucial observational feedback and actively participating in treatment planning meetings.
  • Monitor, dispense, and accurately document client medications as prescribed, adhering strictly to facility protocols, state regulations, and best practices for medication administration.
  • Safely transport clients to and from appointments, school, and various community-based activities using a company vehicle, while ensuring all transportation safety procedures are rigorously followed.
  • Build and maintain a positive, professional, and therapeutic rapport with clients and their families, serving as a positive role model and providing consistent emotional support and encouragement.
  • Implement core principles of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), including collecting discrete trial data and executing behavior intervention plans for clients, particularly those with autism spectrum disorder.
  • Conduct and document regular safety checks of the facility, grounds, and client rooms to identify, report, and mitigate any potential hazards or safety concerns.
  • Provide direct coaching and in-the-moment guidance to clients on navigating social cues, effective problem-solving, and constructive conflict resolution in real-time situations.
  • Respond to crisis situations with calm and efficiency, correctly implementing emergency procedures and notifying the appropriate clinical and administrative personnel immediately.
  • Track, record, and chart specific client data, such as the frequency of target behaviors or the completion of assigned goals, to inform clinical review and treatment plan adjustments.
  • Model appropriate social behaviors, positive communication, and healthy coping strategies for clients in all interactions, setting a consistent example of pro-social conduct.

Secondary Functions

  • Support the client intake and discharge process, which includes orienting new clients to the program rules and environment and inventorying personal belongings.
  • Accompany clients to medical, dental, or specialist appointments, effectively advocating for their needs and accurately relaying vital information back to the clinical team.
  • Participate in and contribute to ongoing professional development, mandatory training sessions, and team meetings to stay current with best practices in behavioral health.
  • Assist in maintaining a therapeutic, safe, and clean environment by performing light housekeeping duties and organizing program areas and supplies.
  • Support clients in their academic activities, providing homework assistance, and communicating with educational staff to ensure scholastic progress and support.
  • Ensure all client interactions, verbal communication, and written documentation strictly comply with HIPAA and all other federal and state confidentiality regulations.

Required Skills & Competencies

Hard Skills (Technical)

  • Crisis Intervention: Certification in Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI), MANDT, or a similar behavior management system.
  • Medical & Safety: Current CPR and First Aid Certification.
  • Documentation: Proficiency in using Electronic Health Record (EHR) or Electronic Medical Record (EMR) software for clinical notes.
  • Behavioral Models: Foundational knowledge of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) principles and data collection methods.
  • Medication Management: Medication Administration Training/Certification (as required by state or facility).
  • Driving: Valid Driver's License and a clean driving record for client transportation.
  • Data Collection: Ability to accurately collect, record, and report on behavioral and goal-oriented data.

Educational Background

Minimum Education:

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
