Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

Set up, calibrate, and operate a variety of industrial threading machines, including automatic screw machines, tappers, and roll threaders, according to job specifications.
Interpret and work from complex blueprints, engineering drawings, and work orders to determine machine settings and production requirements.
Select and install appropriate tooling, such as chasers, dies, and cutting tools, ensuring they are sharp and in good condition for optimal performance.
Monitor machine operations closely, listening for unusual noises and observing performance to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining.
Perform first-piece and in-process quality inspections using precision measuring instruments like micrometers, calipers, thread gauges, and optical comparators.
Make necessary adjustments to machine offsets, speeds, and feeds to maintain dimensional accuracy and ensure products meet strict quality standards.
Conduct routine and preventative maintenance on threading equipment, including lubrication, cleaning, and minor repairs to minimize downtime.
Troubleshoot and diagnose mechanical and operational issues with machinery, implementing corrective actions to resolve problems efficiently.
Maintain accurate and detailed production logs, quality control records, and maintenance reports for traceability and process improvement.
Handle and transport raw materials to the workstation and move finished parts to the next stage of the production process.
Ensure a clean, organized, and safe work area by adhering to all company safety protocols, including LOTO (Lockout/Tagout) procedures.
Systematically change out worn or broken tooling and report any significant equipment or tooling issues to the shift supervisor or maintenance department.
Read and understand material specifications to ensure the correct grade and type of raw material is used for each production run.
Collaborate with the quality assurance team to analyze and resolve any non-conforming product issues or trends.
Continuously monitor the thread-rolling and cutting processes to ensure the integrity and finish of the threads meet customer specifications.
Manage the flow of parts through the threading process, ensuring production targets and deadlines are met without compromising quality.
Safely operate material handling equipment, such as pallet jacks or forklifts, to move materials and finished goods as required.
Participate in continuous improvement initiatives by providing valuable feedback on process efficiency, safety enhancements, and quality control methods.
Train junior operators or apprentices on machine operation, safety procedures, and quality inspection techniques.
Perform visual inspections of all finished threads for defects such as burrs, chips, or inconsistencies that could affect product functionality.
