Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

Measure and accurately mark surfaces to be tiled, meticulously planning layouts to ensure straight lines, symmetrical patterns, and optimal tile placement to minimize waste.
Prepare a variety of substrates for tile installation, including cleaning, leveling, and applying waterproofing membranes, crack-isolation membranes, or self-leveling underlayment.
Expertly cut tiles and other materials, such as ceramic, porcelain, glass, marble, and granite, using hand-held and power-driven tools like wet saws, tile scribes, and grinders.
Form, level, and screed mud beds for shower pans and floors, ensuring proper slope for drainage according to industry standards and building codes.
Mix thin-set mortar, adhesives, and grout to the correct consistency, applying them evenly to ensure full adhesion and prevent future tile failure.
Precisely set tiles in place, checking for alignment, levelness, and consistent grout joint spacing to create a visually appealing and uniform surface.
Install intricate and custom patterns, including herringbone, chevron, basketweave, and complex mosaics, requiring a high degree of skill and attention to detail.
Create flawless transitions between tiled surfaces and other flooring materials like hardwood, carpet, or vinyl.
Apply grout to fill the joints between tiles, using care to press it firmly into the gaps and then cleaning the surface for a polished, professional finish.
Install pre-fabricated and custom-built shower niches, benches, and curbs, ensuring they are fully integrated and waterproofed within the shower assembly.
Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications to understand project scope, materials, and layout requirements.
Perform all necessary waterproofing and crack isolation procedures for wet areas like showers, tub surrounds, and steam rooms using liquid-applied or sheet membranes.
Select and use appropriate setting materials and techniques based on the tile type, substrate, and application area (e.g., large format tile, glass tile, natural stone).
Caulk joints where tile meets other surfaces (e.g., walls, countertops, bathtubs) with silicone or other sealants to provide a flexible, watertight seal.
Manage on-site materials, ensuring all necessary tiles, adhesives, and tools are available to complete the job efficiently.
Perform demolition and removal of existing flooring, wall tile, and fixtures in preparation for new installations.
Troubleshoot and resolve on-site installation challenges, such as uneven subfloors, out-of-square walls, or complex cuts.
Adhere to all job site safety regulations and maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment to prevent accidents and injuries.
