Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Execute complete lubrication and oil change services, including draining the oil pan, replacing the oil filter, and refilling the engine with the manufacturer-specified grade and quantity of oil.
- Perform professional tire services, including dismounting and mounting tires on rims, and utilizing computerized wheel balancers to ensure a smooth and safe ride.
- Conduct tire rotations according to vehicle-specific patterns to promote even tire wear and extend the life of the tires.
- Inspect, diagnose, and repair tire punctures and leaks using industry-approved plug and patch methods, ensuring the structural integrity of the tire.
- Perform comprehensive multi-point vehicle inspections, meticulously checking fluid levels, belts, hoses, lights, wipers, and other key components to identify potential issues.
- Test vehicle battery health using digital testing equipment, clean terminals, and perform battery installations when required.
- Inspect and replace essential filters, including engine air filters, cabin air filters, and fuel filters, to maintain vehicle performance and air quality.
- Check and top off all vital vehicle fluids, including coolant, brake fluid, power steering fluid, and windshield washer fluid, using the correct fluid types.
- Accurately document all services performed, parts used, and vehicle inspection findings on the digital or paper repair order for internal records and customer transparency.
- Operate automotive service lifts and jacks safely and effectively, ensuring vehicles are securely positioned before any work commences.
- Reset Tire Pressure Monitoring Systems (TPMS) and oil life/maintenance reminder lights after service completion using appropriate diagnostic and reset tools.
- Communicate inspection findings clearly and professionally to the Service Advisor, providing them with the necessary information to advise the customer.
Secondary Functions
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment in the service bay and shop, including sweeping floors, cleaning up spills, and properly organizing tools.
- Assist in managing the inventory of shop supplies such as oil, filters, and other common parts, and report to management when stock levels are low.
- Properly dispose of used tires, waste oil, and other materials in accordance with company policies and environmental regulations.
- Perform routine maintenance on shop equipment and tools to ensure they are in good working order and report any malfunctions or needs for repair.
- Provide direct support to other technicians during peak times or for complex tasks, fostering a collaborative and efficient team atmosphere.
- Engage with customers in a friendly and professional manner when necessary, helping to move vehicles or briefly explain a completed service.
- Stay current with new vehicle features and basic service requirements by participating in company-provided training and self-study.
- Uphold all company safety standards and OSHA guidelines at all times, including the consistent use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
