Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

Safely and efficiently climb and work on communication towers, monopoles, rooftops, and other elevated structures, sometimes at heights exceeding 300 feet, to install, inspect, and maintain equipment.
Perform the installation, replacement, and repair of a wide range of telecommunication systems, including antennas, RRUs (Remote Radio Units), radios, diplexers, TMAs, and other RF components.
Conduct comprehensive tower and equipment inspections, meticulously documenting structural integrity, identifying potential hazards, and ensuring compliance with industry and carrier standards.
Execute line and antenna swaps, upgrades, and modifications to support network expansions and technology rollouts, such as 4G LTE to 5G transitions.
Strictly adhere to all company, client, and industry safety standards, including OSHA, ANSI, and NATE guidelines, for all tasks performed.
Participate in and lead daily job site safety analysis (JSA) meetings, ensuring all crew members are aware of the tasks, hazards, and mitigation plans for the day.
Run, secure, and terminate various types of transmission lines, including coaxial, fiber optic, and power cables, ensuring proper weatherproofing and grounding.
Operate and interpret readings from specialized test equipment, such as Anritsu Site Master, PIM (Passive Intermodulation) testers, and OTDRs, to verify system performance.
Perform advanced troubleshooting on malfunctioning RF and antenna systems, identifying root causes of issues like signal degradation, high VSWR, or PIM.
Skillfully utilize rigging equipment, including capstans, gin poles, and pulley systems, to safely hoist and lower tools, equipment, and materials.
Read and interpret construction drawings, site plans, and RF data sheets to ensure installation is completed to exact specifications.
Complete detailed closeout documentation, including site photos, equipment inventories, test results, and red-line drawings, for project acceptance.
Maintain a professional demeanor and provide excellent customer service when interacting with clients, property owners, and other contractors on site.
Conduct tower rescue drills and demonstrate proficiency in emergency descent and victim retrieval procedures as a competent climber and rescuer.
Perform grounding, weatherproofing, and cable-supporting work, ensuring the long-term durability and reliability of the installation.
Assist in the fabrication and assembly of tower-related components and mounts, both on the ground and at height.
Perform civil work as needed, including trenching for conduits, pouring concrete pads for equipment, and installing ice bridge structures.
Ensure all climbing gear and personal protective equipment (PPE) is inspected daily and maintained in a safe, operational condition.
Work effectively in a team environment, communicating clearly with ground personnel and other climbers to coordinate tasks efficiently and safely.
Operate company-provided vehicles, including bucket trucks and boom lifts, in a safe and responsible manner.
Be available for on-call rotations, emergency repairs, and extended travel, often working in varying and sometimes extreme weather conditions.

Secondary Functions

Assist in the training and mentoring of junior technicians and ground hands, sharing knowledge of best practices and safety procedures.
