Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Conducting comprehensive diagnostic assessments on a wide range of agricultural tractors and related equipment using advanced computerized diagnostic tools and manual testing methods to accurately identify mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic malfunctions.
  • Executing intricate repairs on diesel engines, including fuel injection systems, turbochargers, and exhaust after-treatment systems (DEF/SCR), ensuring they meet manufacturer specifications and emissions standards.
  • Performing complete overhauls and rebuilding of major equipment components such as powershift transmissions, final drives, steering systems, and hydraulic pumps to restore them to factory condition.
  • Servicing and troubleshooting complex open and closed-center hydraulic systems, including diagnosing issues with electro-hydraulic valves, pumps, and cylinders, and performing necessary repairs or replacements.
  • Diagnosing and repairing advanced electrical and electronic systems, including CAN bus networks, GPS guidance systems, precision farming technology, onboard computers, and wiring harnesses.
  • Carrying out preventative maintenance programs, including scheduled inspections, oil and fluid analysis, lubrication, filter changes, and adjustments on tractors and implements to minimize downtime and extend equipment life.
  • Maintaining detailed and accurate service records of all maintenance and repair work performed, including documenting parts used, labor hours, and clear descriptions of the services rendered for warranty and billing purposes.
  • Responding to and performing field service calls to diagnose and repair equipment on-site at customer locations, often working independently in various environmental conditions to get them back up and running quickly.
  • Utilizing welding and fabrication skills to repair or modify equipment components, including frames, attachments, and structural parts, using MIG, TIG, and stick welding techniques.
  • Preparing and submitting detailed service reports and technical documentation to service managers and customers, clearly communicating the nature of the problem and the solution implemented.
  • Installing and calibrating precision agriculture hardware and software, such as GPS/GNSS receivers, autosteer systems, and yield monitors, ensuring proper functionality and providing basic customer training.
  • Assembling and preparing new equipment for delivery to customers, performing pre-delivery inspections (PDI) to ensure all systems are operational and meet quality standards.
  • Providing exceptional customer service by communicating effectively with equipment owners and operators about repair timelines, cost estimates, and preventative maintenance recommendations.
  • Maintaining a clean, organized, and safe work environment in the shop and service vehicle, adhering to all company safety policies, OSHA regulations, and environmental standards.
  • Participating in ongoing manufacturer-led and in-house technical training to stay current with the latest technology, new equipment models, and advanced repair techniques in the industry.
  • Assisting in the management of parts inventory for assigned jobs, including identifying, sourcing, and ordering necessary parts for repairs while maintaining cost-effectiveness.
  • Guiding and mentoring junior mechanics or apprentices, sharing knowledge and expertise to help develop their skills and understanding of complex agricultural systems.
  • Reading and interpreting complex technical manuals, service bulletins, schematics, and diagrams to effectively troubleshoot and repair equipment according to manufacturer guidelines.
  • Performing seasonal equipment change-overs and setup, such as converting tractors and implements for planting, harvesting, or tilling applications.
  • Operating and testing repaired equipment to verify that defects have been corrected and the machine is functioning properly and safely under operational conditions.

Secondary Functions

  • Assist sales staff by providing technical evaluations and condition reports for used equipment trade-ins.
  • Provide feedback to the service manager on tool upgrades, shop equipment needs, and process improvements.
  • Collaborate with the parts department to identify and pre-order components for large, scheduled repair jobs and overhauls.
  • Participate in weekly shop meetings to discuss workflow, safety topics, and to share solutions to challenging repairs.

Education & Experience

Educational Background

Minimum Education:
