Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

Skillfully and safely operate a diverse fleet of tractors and other agricultural machinery, including models from John Deere, Case IH, and New Holland.
Expertly attach and utilize a wide variety of implements such as plows, discs, cultivators, planters, seed drills, and mowers for soil preparation and crop management.
Execute precision planting and seeding operations, ensuring correct depth, spacing, and application rates according to agronomist recommendations and field plans.
Perform primary and secondary tillage to prepare seedbeds, manage crop residue, and control weeds, adapting techniques based on soil type and condition.
Conduct timely cultivation, spraying, and fertilizing activities throughout the growing season, operating sprayers and spreaders with a high degree of accuracy to ensure uniform coverage.
Operate harvesting equipment, such as balers, forage harvesters, or tractor-pulled combines, to efficiently bring in crops while minimizing loss and maintaining quality.
Transport harvested crops, hay, silage, soil, and other materials across the property using tractors with wagons, trailers, or front-end loaders.
Conduct thorough pre-operation and post-operation inspections on all equipment, meticulously checking fluid levels, tire pressure, and hydraulic systems to ensure operational readiness.
Perform routine and preventative maintenance, including lubricating grease points (greasing), changing oil and filters, and replacing worn belts and hoses.
Diagnose and troubleshoot minor mechanical issues in the field to minimize downtime, and effectively communicate complex problems to the maintenance team.
Maintain the cleanliness of all assigned equipment, including washing tractors and implements to prevent cross-contamination and prolong a machine's lifespan.
Utilize and calibrate on-board GPS, auto-steer systems, and other precision agriculture technology to optimize field efficiency and maintain accurate application records.
Meticulously document all field activities, including hours of operation, fuel consumption, acreage covered, and application rates, using logbooks or digital farm management software.
Adhere strictly to all company and OSHA safety protocols, including wearing appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and practicing safe machinery operation at all times.
Assist in loading and unloading trucks with agricultural products, supplies, and equipment in a safe and organized manner.
Monitor field and crop conditions while operating machinery, reporting any signs of pests, diseases, irrigation issues, or other potential problems to the Farm Manager.
Operate front-end loaders and skid steers for tasks such as moving materials, cleaning pens, and maintaining farm roads and grounds.
Participate in land improvement and conservation projects, such as building terraces, maintaining waterways, and performing light excavation or grading work.
Support irrigation system operations, including moving and setting up irrigation equipment or monitoring automated systems as needed.
Assist with general farm duties and manual labor during off-seasons or as required, demonstrating a flexible and team-oriented attitude.

Secondary Functions

Assist in tracking field data, such as fuel usage, hours of operation, and application rates, for operational analysis and efficiency reporting.
Provide practical feedback and insights to contribute to the farm's equipment acquisition and land management strategy.

Experience Requirements

Typical Experience Range:
