Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Structure, issue, and advise on a wide range of trade finance instruments, including commercial and standby letters of credit (L/Cs), import/export documentary collections, and bank guarantees.
  • Conduct detailed examination of documents presented under letters of credit and documentary collections to ensure strict compliance with terms, conditions, and international regulations (UCP 600, ISBP, URC 522).
  • Manage the full lifecycle of trade finance transactions, from initiation and processing to settlement and closure, ensuring accuracy and timeliness at every stage.
  • Liaise directly with clients, correspondent banks, and internal business units (e.g., Sales, Credit, Legal, Compliance) to resolve discrepancies, answer queries, and facilitate smooth transaction flows.
  • Analyze and assess the risks associated with proposed trade finance transactions, including credit, operational, and compliance risks, and propose effective mitigation strategies.
  • Process SWIFT messages related to trade finance products (e.g., MT7xx series), ensuring they are correctly formatted and transmitted.
  • Ensure all trade finance activities are conducted in strict adherence to internal policies and external regulations, including Anti-Money Laundering (AML), Know Your Customer (KYC), and international sanctions screening.
  • Manage and monitor the bank's exposure related to trade finance, preparing regular and ad-hoc reports for senior management on transaction volumes, revenues, and risk levels.
  • Provide expert guidance and technical support to relationship managers and clients on structuring complex trade deals to meet their specific financing needs.
  • Review and negotiate terms and conditions of trade finance documentation, coordinating with legal counsel when necessary to protect the bank's interests.
  • Handle the discounting of acceptances and the financing of trade receivables under approved credit lines.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of all trade transactions within the core banking and trade finance systems.
  • Proactively identify and escalate any potential issues, red flags, or unusual activity observed during transaction processing to the appropriate compliance or risk management teams.
  • Calculate and process fees, commissions, and interest related to trade finance services, ensuring accurate billing and revenue recognition.
  • Monitor and manage maturing obligations, ensuring timely payment from obligors and following up on overdue payments.

Secondary Functions

  • Assist in the development and implementation of new trade finance products and supply chain finance solutions.
  • Participate in user acceptance testing (UAT) for system upgrades or the implementation of new trade finance platforms.
  • Contribute to process improvement initiatives by identifying bottlenecks and recommending more efficient workflows and procedures.
  • Prepare and deliver training materials on trade finance products and processes for junior staff or other internal departments.
  • Support senior analysts and management with complex transaction structuring and portfolio analysis.
  • Stay current with changes in international trade practices, regulations, and market trends to provide informed advice.
  • Assist in responding to internal and external audit requests by providing required documentation and explanations.

Required Skills & Competencies

Hard Skills (Technical)

  • Deep Knowledge of Trade Finance Products: Expertise in Letters of Credit (L/C), Standby Letters of Credit (SBLC), Documentary Collections, and Bank Guarantees.
  • Regulatory Proficiency: Strong understanding of ICC rules including UCP 600, ISBP 745, URC 522, and URR 725.
  • SWIFT Messaging: Proficiency with trade-related SWIFT messages, particularly the MT7xx series.
  • Financial Document Analysis: Ability to meticulously examine complex trade documents (e.g., Bills of Lading, Commercial Invoices, Insurance Certificates) for discrepancies.
  • Risk Assessment: Skill in identifying and evaluating credit, operational, and compliance risks in trade transactions.
  • MS Excel: Advanced proficiency in Excel for data analysis, tracking, and reporting.
  • Trade Finance Systems: Experience with common trade finance software and banking platforms (e.g., Finastra, Surecomp, China Systems).

Education & Experience

Educational Background

Minimum Education:
