Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Direct and oversee all international trade operations, ensuring full compliance with customs regulations, import/export laws, and trade sanctions in all operating jurisdictions.
- Develop and implement comprehensive trade compliance programs, including internal policies, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and risk assessment frameworks.
- Serve as the primary subject matter expert on customs valuation, tariff classification (HTS/HS codes), country of origin determination, and other customs-related matters.
- Strategically manage relationships with customs brokers, freight forwarders, and other third-party logistics providers to ensure optimal performance, service levels, and cost-effectiveness.
- Lead negotiations on freight contracts and service agreements, continuously seeking opportunities to reduce transportation costs, duties, and taxes.
- Analyze and leverage Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) and other duty-saving programs to minimize import costs and create a competitive advantage for the business.
- Oversee the accurate and timely preparation and submission of all required import and export documentation, including commercial invoices, packing lists, and certificates of origin.
- Manage and resolve any customs audits, government inquiries, or trade-related disputes, acting as the main point of contact with regulatory agencies.
- Provide strategic guidance to product development, sourcing, and sales teams on the trade-related implications of new products, suppliers, or market entries.
- Monitor the geopolitical and global trade landscape for changes in regulations, tariffs, or trade policies that could impact the business, and develop proactive mitigation strategies.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives within the trade and logistics function to enhance efficiency, reduce cycle times, and improve operational resilience.
- Maintain a robust record-keeping system for all trade-related transactions in accordance with legal requirements and internal policies.
- Conduct regular internal compliance audits and training programs to ensure business-wide awareness and adherence to trade policies.
- Collaborate with the Finance and Accounting departments to ensure accurate duty and tax accruals, payments, and financial reporting.
- Manage the company's participation in special customs programs such as C-TPAT (Customs-Trade Partnership Against Terrorism) or AEO (Authorized Economic Operator).
- Develop and report on key performance indicators (KPIs) for trade operations, including landed cost analysis, broker performance, and compliance metrics.
Secondary Functions

- Partner with the Legal department to interpret complex trade legislation and assess its impact on business operations.
