Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Read, interpret and execute work from blueprints, schematics, technical drawings and service orders to install, repair and maintain building systems, fixtures and structural elements, ensuring compliance with design specifications and construction tolerances.
- Carry out scheduled and unscheduled preventive maintenance tasks across mechanical, electrical, plumbing and building fabric systems to maximize uptime, extend asset life and reduce reactive repair costs.
- Perform installations and upgrades of HVAC units, motors, pumps, ductwork and control systems, following manufacturer instructions, commissioning checklists and HVAC best practices to ensure energy efficiency and occupant comfort.
- Diagnose faults in electrical circuits, control panels, wiring and equipment using multimeters, clamp meters and other test instruments, isolating issues and making safe, code-compliant repairs or replacements.
- Assemble, fit and install doors, frames, windows, joinery and other carpentry elements to site tolerances; repair and refurbish cabinetry, flooring and trim to maintain aesthetic and functional standards.
- Install, service and repair plumbing systems including pipework, valves, toilets, drains and hot water systems; troubleshoot leaks, blockages and pressure issues while complying with plumbing codes and backflow prevention requirements.
- Fabricate and join metalwork using welding, cutting, grinding and bending techniques for supports, brackets and bespoke site fixes; ensure welds meet strength and inspection criteria.
- Execute site works safely at height using harnesses, scaffolding, mobile elevated work platforms (MEWPs) and ladders; adhere to fall-protection plans and permit-to-work procedures.
- Conduct site surveys and inspections to assess repair needs, prepare accurate job estimates, material lists and labour plans to support cost-effective quoting and scheduling.
- Follow lockout/tagout, isolation and permit-to-work procedures during maintenance and commissioning to protect personnel and equipment and ensure safe handover.
- Use diagnostic tools and software to commission and calibrate building automation, control systems and meters; verify sensor and actuator operation and report anomalies to maintenance management.
- Coordinate with contractors, subcontractors and multi-disciplinary teams during renovations and shutdowns to maintain schedule integrity and ensure work is sequenced safely and efficiently.
- Prepare clear, timely service reports, maintenance logs and defect records in electronic maintenance management systems (CMMS) to maintain asset history and support regulatory compliance.
- Identify opportunities for energy savings, small capital improvements or reliability upgrades and present practical recommendations to supervisors or facilities managers.
- Respond to emergency breakdowns and on-call requests, triaging issues, making temporary repairs to restore critical services and implementing permanent fixes with appropriate documentation.
- Load, unload and safely store materials, tools and hazardous substances; maintain site stores and inventory levels using stock control procedures and requisition systems.
- Set out and mark up work using lasers, levels and measuring tools; ensure fabrications and installs are square, plumb and meet quality acceptance criteria.
- Ensure compliance with building regulations, trade codes and health & safety legislation (OSHA, HSE, local authority guidelines) during all phases of work; participate in toolbox talks and safety briefings.
- Mentor apprentices and less experienced tradespeople on safe working methods, trade techniques and quality standards to build team capability and maintain workmanship consistency.
- Conduct quality inspections, snagging and punch-list activities prior to handover; correct defects, document completion and support client walkthroughs to achieve final acceptance.
- Apply painting, plastering and finishing skills to repair and protect surfaces, match existing finishes and prepare areas for handover or operational use.

Educational Background
Minimum Education:
