Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Provide real-time, mission-critical technical support for traders, quantitative researchers, and automated trading strategies, ensuring immediate response to and resolution of system issues.
  • Proactively monitor the health, performance, and latency of a complex ecosystem of proprietary and third-party trading applications across global markets.
  • Diagnose and resolve intricate technical incidents related to market data feeds, order routing, exchange connectivity, and execution platforms with a strong sense of urgency.
  • Manage the complete lifecycle of trading system deployments, including configuration, installation, rigorous testing, and seamless rollout of new software versions and patches.
  • Develop, enhance, and maintain scripts using Python, Bash, or Perl to automate system monitoring, daily operational checks, and data analysis tasks.
  • Perform deep-dive root cause analysis (RCA) for all production incidents, documenting findings and implementing robust preventative measures to enhance system resilience.
  • Act as a primary technical liaison, collaborating closely with software developers to troubleshoot application bugs and with network engineers to resolve latency or connectivity issues.
  • Manage and troubleshoot connectivity with exchanges, brokers, and other financial counterparties, demonstrating expert-level knowledge of the FIX protocol.
  • Conduct daily pre-market system checkouts and post-market reconciliations to ensure operational readiness and data integrity for the start of each trading day.
  • Maintain and improve comprehensive documentation for system architectures, operational procedures, and incident response playbooks.
  • Participate in a rotating on-call schedule to provide 24/7 support for our global trading operations, covering Asian, European, and US market hours.
  • Administer and configure the Linux-based server environment that forms the core of the trading infrastructure, including performance tuning and kernel optimization.
  • Analyze system logs, application data, and performance metrics (e.g., using Splunk, ELK Stack) to identify anomalies, predict potential issues, and drive improvements.
  • Coordinate with data center operations and infrastructure teams for hardware deployments, server racking, and cabling within colocation facilities.
  • Respond immediately to alerts from enterprise monitoring systems (e.g., Zabbix, Grafana, Prometheus, ITRS Geneos) and execute predefined resolution steps.

Secondary Functions

  • Support ad-hoc data requests and exploratory data analysis for traders and quantitative teams, often requiring complex SQL queries and scripting.
  • Contribute to the organization's data strategy and roadmap by identifying gaps in monitoring and proposing new metrics for collection.
  • Collaborate with business units to translate their data and operational needs into technical requirements for the engineering teams.
  • Participate in sprint planning, daily stand-ups, and other agile ceremonies within the broader technology team.
  • Manage user access, permissions, and profiles for various trading systems and market data terminals in a secure and compliant manner.
  • Assist in capacity planning and performance testing exercises to ensure our infrastructure can handle future volume and strategy growth.
  • Analyze and help resolve trade breaks or reconciliation discrepancies by working closely with middle and back-office operations teams.

Required Skills & Competencies

Hard Skills (Technical)

  • Linux/Unix Expertise: Deep proficiency in Linux/Unix operating systems (RHEL, CentOS, Ubuntu) and command-line tools for system administration and troubleshooting.
  • Scripting for Automation: Strong scripting ability in Python, Bash, or Perl to automate tasks, parse logs, and perform data analysis.
  • FIX Protocol: In-depth, practical knowledge of the Financial Information eXchange (FIX) protocol for session management, order flow, and execution reporting.
  • Networking Fundamentals: Solid understanding of core networking concepts, including TCP/IP, UDP, multicast, and familiarity with low-latency network troubleshooting.
  • Database Querying: Proficiency in writing SQL queries to interrogate relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, MS SQL) for issue investigation and reporting.
  • Market Data Systems: Experience with market data providers and distribution platforms (e.g., Bloomberg, Refinitiv/Reuters, Activ Financial, internal systems).
  • Monitoring Tools: Hands-on experience with enterprise monitoring and visualization tools such as Grafana, Zabbix, Nagios, Prometheus, or ITRS Geneos.

Education & Experience

Educational Background

Minimum Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in a technical or quantitative field.
