Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Develop, design, and implement comprehensive and compliant Traffic Control Plans (TCPs) using specialized software and deep knowledge of local, state, and federal regulations (e.g., MUTCD).
- Direct and oversee all daily traffic control operations, including crew dispatch, equipment allocation, and on-site setup and takedown, ensuring projects are staffed and equipped appropriately.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, general contractors, and government/municipal agencies (e.g., DOT), fostering strong relationships and ensuring clear communication on project status and requirements.
- Conduct regular and thorough on-site safety audits and inspections to verify that work zones are set up correctly and that all personnel are adhering to strict safety protocols and PPE requirements.
- Manage, mentor, and develop a team of traffic control supervisors and technicians, overseeing their performance, training, scheduling, and professional growth.
- Proactively identify and mitigate potential risks and hazards associated with work zones, implementing corrective actions immediately to prevent accidents or injuries.
- Assume command during traffic-related incidents or emergencies, coordinating response efforts with emergency services and internal teams to restore safety and normal traffic flow swiftly.
- Manage the division's budget, including labor costs, equipment rental/purchase, and project-specific expenses, to ensure profitability and financial health.
- Oversee the maintenance, inventory, and readiness of the traffic control equipment fleet, including arrow boards, message signs, barricades, cones, and vehicles.
- Review project plans and specifications to prepare accurate and competitive bids, proposals, and cost estimates for new traffic control service opportunities.
- Ensure all required documentation, such as daily work reports, safety briefings (toolbox talks), incident reports, and compliance forms, is completed accurately and submitted on time.
- Lead the recruitment, hiring, and onboarding process for new traffic control personnel, ensuring the team is staffed with qualified and safety-conscious individuals.
- Coordinate complex project logistics, including MOT (Maintenance of Traffic) phasing, lane closures, detours, and flagging operations for long-term or high-traffic projects.
