Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Listen to a diverse range of audio and video recordings, meticulously transcribing spoken content into clear, well-formatted written documents.
  • Proofread and edit transcriptions generated by automated software, correcting errors in spelling, grammar, punctuation, and syntax to meet quality standards.
  • Ensure every transcript is a verbatim or clean-read account (as specified by project guidelines) of the source recording.
  • Identify and accurately spell the names of speakers, places, organizations, and any technical or industry-specific terminology mentioned.
  • Conduct light research using online resources to verify the spelling and context of unfamiliar terms or acronyms.
  • Format transcripts according to specific in-house style guides or client requirements, including the use of timestamps, speaker labels, and notations for non-verbal sounds.
  • Manage a queue of transcription assignments, prioritizing tasks effectively to consistently meet established deadlines without sacrificing quality.
  • Handle sensitive and confidential information with the utmost discretion, adhering to strict data privacy and security protocols.
  • Use specialized transcription software (like Express Scribe) and foot pedals to control audio playback efficiently while typing.
  • Communicate clearly with supervisors or team members regarding any audio quality issues, unclear speech, or ambiguities in the source material.
  • Maintain a detailed log of completed work, tracking time spent on each file to assist with project management and workflow analysis.
  • Review and apply feedback from senior transcribers or quality assurance specialists to continuously improve transcription accuracy and speed.
  • Transcribe multi-speaker recordings, accurately identifying and labeling each individual speaker throughout the document.
  • Annotate transcripts with relevant metadata, such as noting sections with poor audio quality or significant background noise.
  • Ensure final documents are free of any homophone errors (e.g., "their" vs. "there," "to" vs. "too") and other common transcription mistakes.

Secondary Functions

  • Support ad-hoc data entry and content tagging requests from media and content teams.
  • Contribute to the improvement of transcription style guides and documentation.
  • Collaborate with the content team to understand how transcripts are used and suggest ways to improve their utility.
