Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Assisting Project Managers in the complete lifecycle of translation and localization projects, from initiation and planning to final delivery and archiving.
  • Preparing source files for translation using Computer-Assisted Translation (CAT) tools, which includes text segmentation, file analysis, and creating project packages.
  • Managing and meticulously maintaining core linguistic assets, such as translation memories (TMs) and terminology databases (term bases/glossaries), to ensure consistency and leverage past work.
  • Performing basic pre-translation file engineering and post-translation desktop publishing (DTP) to ensure translated documents closely match the original source layout.
  • Conducting linguistic quality assurance (LQA) checks on translated files to identify and report issues related to grammar, punctuation, formatting, and adherence to style guides.
  • Serving as a primary communication liaison between internal project managers and external freelance translators or language service providers (LSPs) for logistical and administrative matters.
  • Diligently tracking project statuses, updating schedules in a Translation Management System (TMS), and communicating potential delays or risks to the project management team.
  • Handling the administrative aspects of linguist onboarding, including collecting necessary documentation, NDAs, and providing access to company platforms.
  • Generating and analyzing project-related reports, such as word count analysis, cost estimates, and progress summaries for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Performing minor translations and edits for short-form, non-critical content such as UI strings or internal communications, based on language proficiency.
  • Creating and managing purchase orders, processing vendor invoices, and assisting the Project Manager with budget tracking for translation services.
  • Researching and verifying the correct usage of industry-specific or client-specific terminology to support translator queries and maintain glossary accuracy.
  • Providing first-line technical support to translators regarding CAT tools, delivery platforms, and project-specific file requirements.
  • Coordinating the localization testing process for software, websites, or multimedia content to ensure both linguistic accuracy and functional integrity in the target language.
  • Compiling and preparing comprehensive project kits for translators, ensuring they have all necessary source files, reference materials, style guides, and instructions.
  • Running automated quality assurance checks using tools like Xbench or Verifika and carefully reviewing the generated reports to filter out false positives.

  • Actively participating in post-project review meetings (post-mortems) to provide valuable feedback on processes, vendor performance, and tool efficiency.
  • Managing and responding to a high volume of queries from the linguistic team, escalating complex issues to the appropriate Project Manager or technical expert.
  • Reviewing and implementing feedback from client reviewers to update translation memories and term bases, aiming to continuously improve future translation quality.

Secondary Functions

  • Assisting with the documentation of translation workflows, tool guides, and departmental best practices.
  • Conducting research on new translation technologies and tools to support process improvement initiatives.
  • Providing general administrative support to the localization department, such as scheduling multi-regional meetings and preparing presentations.
  • Contributing to the maintenance and organization of the company's internal knowledge base for the language services team.

Required Skills & Competencies

Hard Skills (Technical)

  • High proficiency with standard Computer-Assisted Translation (CAT) tools (e.g., SDL Trados Studio, MemoQ, Wordfast, Across).
  • Familiarity with the interface and functionality of Translation Management Systems (TMS) such as WorldServer, XTM Cloud, Smartling, or Plunet.
  • Strong command of the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), particularly with advanced Word formatting and data manipulation in Excel.
  • Basic knowledge of file formats common in translation (e.g., XML, HTML, JSON, IDML) and an understanding of their preparation for localization.
  • Experience with or the ability to quickly learn quality assurance (QA) software like Xbench or Verifika.
  • A solid understanding of core localization concepts, including translation memory (TM) leverage, term base (TB) management, and pseudo-localization.

Educational Background

Minimum Education:
