Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Advise internal stakeholders and external clients on best practices for translation, localization (l10n), and internationalization (i18n) to build and optimize their global content strategy.
  • Conduct comprehensive localization audits of websites, software applications, and marketing collateral to identify linguistic, cultural, and technical gaps and present opportunities for improvement.
  • Design, develop, and implement customized localization workflows and processes tailored to client needs, integrating with their existing Content Management Systems (CMS) and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Serve as the primary linguistic and cultural subject matter expert, providing deep-dive guidance on tone of voice, style, and regional nuances to ensure content is compelling and appropriate for target international audiences.
  • Strategically manage and optimize core linguistic assets, including Translation Memories (TMs) and Terminology Databases (TermBases), to drive consistency, quality, and cost-effectiveness across all translation efforts.
  • Evaluate, select, and manage the performance and relationships with Language Service Providers (LSPs) and freelance linguist teams, establishing robust quality standards and performance metrics.
  • Create and maintain detailed, market-specific style guides, comprehensive glossaries, and localization kits that empower linguistic teams to produce high-quality, consistent translations.
  • Collaborate closely with product management, engineering, and UX/UI design teams to embed internationalization principles early in the product development lifecycle (a "shift-left" approach).
  • Analyze translation quality data using industry-standard frameworks (e.g., MQM, DQF) to provide actionable feedback, perform root cause analysis, and drive continuous improvement initiatives with vendors.
  • Develop and lead training sessions for internal teams and clients on localization tools, technologies (TMS, CAT tools), and global readiness best practices to build organizational competency.
  • Consult on the intricate requirements of multilingual Search Engine Optimization (SEO), ensuring that translated web content is fully optimized for international search engines to maximize organic traffic and visibility.
  • Act as a key facilitator for cross-functional communication between client-side departments and localization vendors, ensuring seamless project execution, clear expectations, and alignment on strategic goals.
  • Define and track Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for the entire localization program, reporting on metrics such as cost-per-word, turnaround time, budget adherence, and quality scores to measure success and demonstrate ROI.
  • Provide strategic, data-driven recommendations for new market entry and prioritization based on analysis of linguistic complexity, cultural factors, and business potential.
  • Pilot, test, and evaluate emerging translation technologies, including Neural Machine Translation (NMT) and AI-powered QA tools, making clear recommendations for adoption to enhance operational efficiency.
  • Oversee the end-to-end linguistic quality assurance (LQA) process by defining testing protocols, managing feedback loops, and ensuring all issues are resolved prior to launch.
  • Develop compelling business cases and ROI analyses for significant localization investments, effectively communicating the value of a global-first approach to senior leadership and executive teams.
  • Act as the go-to expert on global compliance and locale-specific requirements, including data privacy regulations (like GDPR) and local content laws that impact product and marketing.
  • Manage budgets for large-scale localization programs and initiatives, ensuring resource allocation is aligned with strategic priorities and that cost-saving opportunities are proactively identified.
  • Develop and document comprehensive globalization playbooks and frameworks that enable internal teams to scale their international expansion efforts efficiently and consistently.

Required Skills & Competencies

Hard Skills (Technical)

  • Translation Management Systems (TMS): Deep expertise in configuring and managing enterprise-level TMS platforms like WorldServer, XTM Cloud, Smartling, Memsource/Phrase, or similar systems.
  • CAT Tools: Advanced proficiency with Computer-Assisted Translation (CAT) tools such as Trados Studio, MemoQ, or Wordfast, including template and filter configuration.
  • Internationalization (i18n): Strong understanding of i18n principles and best practices for software, web, and mobile development to prevent localization bugs.
  • Machine Translation & Post-Editing (MTPE): Knowledge of MT engine types, quality evaluation, and managing MTPE workflows, including light and full post-editing.
  • CMS & API Integrations: Experience with how localization workflows integrate with common Content Management Systems (e.g., AEM, Contentful) and code repositories (e.g., Git) via APIs and connectors.
  • Multilingual SEO: Solid understanding of the principles of international SEO, including hreflang tags, URL structures, and keyword research for different markets.
  • Data Analysis & Reporting: Ability to analyze localization quality and performance data, create insightful reports, and present findings to diverse audiences.

Educational Background

Minimum Education:
