Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Meticulously place and arrange products onto moving conveyor belts or into designated trays, ensuring correct count, spacing, and orientation per product specifications.
  • Visually inspect products for any defects, inconsistencies, or foreign materials, promptly removing any items that do not meet strict quality assurance standards.
  • Monitor the flow of products on the production line to maintain a steady pace, preventing jams and ensuring continuous operation.
  • Operate and monitor semi-automated packaging equipment, such as tray denesters or conveyor systems, making minor adjustments as needed to maintain efficiency.
  • Ensure all packaging materials, including trays, films, and labels, are correct for the specific product run and are free of damage or contamination.
  • Accurately weigh and record product-filled trays to verify they meet the specified weight requirements, making adjustments as directed by the Line Lead.
  • Apply correct labels, date codes, and other required markings to trays and cases, ensuring legibility and proper placement.
  • Carefully stack finished trays into boxes, cases, or onto pallets according to established patterns to ensure stability and prevent product damage during transit.
  • Work collaboratively with team members on the line to rotate tasks, provide support, and communicate effectively to achieve daily production targets.
  • Adhere strictly to all Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), food safety protocols (like HACCP), and personal hygiene requirements at all times.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work station by regularly cleaning equipment, clearing debris, and keeping materials orderly.
  • Follow all company safety procedures, including the proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as gloves, hairnets, and safety glasses.
  • Communicate any equipment malfunctions, product quality issues, or safety hazards immediately to the Line Lead or Production Supervisor.
  • Assist in the changeover process between different product runs by helping to clear the line, set up new materials, and prepare the work area.
  • Complete basic production logs and paperwork accurately, documenting production counts, downtime, and quality checks as required.
  • Manage the supply of packaging materials at the workstation, signaling for replenishment to avoid line stoppages.
  • Perform repetitive hand, wrist, and arm motions with a high degree of dexterity and consistency throughout the entire shift.
  • Stand for extended periods and perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting and carrying containers of product or packaging materials up to a specified weight.
  • Load raw or semi-finished products onto the beginning of the packaging line for processing and packing.
  • Seal and tape finished cases manually or by using a semi-automated case sealer, ensuring a secure closure for shipping.
  • Understand and follow verbal and written instructions from supervisors regarding production schedules, product specifications, and operational changes.
  • Rotate through different positions on the packaging line as directed to support operational flexibility and cross-training initiatives.

Secondary Functions

  • Assist in end-of-shift sanitation procedures, including the cleaning and sanitizing of conveyor belts, work surfaces, and shared equipment.
  • Support inventory management by participating in cycle counts of packaging materials and finished goods.
  • Provide temporary support to other production lines or departments, such as shipping or raw material receiving, during periods of high demand or staff absence.
  • Participate in team meetings and continuous improvement initiatives, offering suggestions to enhance safety, quality, and efficiency.

Required Skills & Competencies

Hard Skills (Technical)

  • Ability to operate basic packaging machinery (e.g., conveyor belts, tape machines).
  • Knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) and food safety standards.
  • Basic mathematical skills for counting, weighing, and recording data.
  • Ability to read and interpret production orders, product specifications, and labels.
  • Understanding of quality control inspection criteria for identifying defects.
  • Manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination for precise product placement.
  • Competency in palletizing and stacking patterns for stable load building.
  • Knowledge of workplace safety protocols, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) awareness.
