Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Expertly operate automated and semi-automated tray sealing equipment to securely package food products according to precise production schedules and quality standards.
  • Execute complete machine setup and changeovers for different product runs, including adjusting tooling, film rolls, and machine parameters like temperature, pressure, and vacuum levels.
  • Continuously monitor the sealing process to ensure consistent and high-quality seals, verifying package integrity, correct labeling, and accurate date coding on every unit.
  • Perform routine and in-depth quality control checks on finished products, including seal strength tests, visual inspections for defects, and package weight verification.
  • Proactively troubleshoot and resolve minor machine stoppages, alarms, and operational issues to minimize downtime and maintain production flow.
  • Conduct thorough cleaning and sanitation of the tray sealer and surrounding work area before, during, and after production runs, adhering to strict food safety protocols.
  • Accurately complete all required production documentation, including quality check sheets, output logs, downtime reports, and batch records.
  • Manage and maintain an adequate supply of packaging materials, such as trays, lidding film, and labels, at the workstation to ensure uninterrupted operation.
  • Adhere strictly to all company safety policies, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures, when performing machine adjustments, cleaning, or maintenance.
  • Collaborate effectively with line leads, quality assurance personnel, and maintenance technicians to report equipment malfunctions and address quality concerns promptly.
  • Load trays and other packaging components into the machine's infeed system, ensuring correct orientation and consistent flow.
  • Calibrate machine settings based on product specifications and environmental conditions to achieve optimal seal quality and machine performance.
  • Visually inspect raw materials and packaging components for any defects or contamination before they enter the production process.
  • Monitor the machine's control panel (HMI) for any error messages or performance deviations, taking corrective action as necessary.
  • Ensure the correct product, film, and labels are used for each specific production run, preventing cross-contamination and mislabeling.
  • Adjust the speed of the machine to synchronize with the overall pace of the production line, maximizing efficiency without compromising quality.
  • Safely remove and dispose of waste materials, including scrap film and rejected products, in accordance with company and environmental guidelines.
  • Train new or less experienced operators on the proper procedures for machine setup, operation, and safety protocols.
  • Participate in regular team meetings to discuss production goals, challenges, and opportunities for process improvement.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment by following 5S principles and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).

Required Skills & Competencies

Hard Skills (Technical)

  • Machine Operation: Proficiency in operating industrial packaging machinery, specifically tray sealers (e.g., Proseal, Multivac, Ossid).
  • Mechanical Aptitude: Strong ability to perform machine changeovers, make precise mechanical adjustments, and troubleshoot common equipment faults.
  • Food Safety Knowledge: Solid understanding of food safety protocols, including Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points (HACCP).
