Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Assist lead technicians with the physical installation and mounting of flat-screen TVs, soundbars, and surround sound systems on various wall surfaces.
  • Run, conceal, and terminate low-voltage wiring, including coaxial, HDMI, speaker, and Ethernet cables, ensuring a clean and professional appearance.
  • Help in the setup and configuration of smart TVs, streaming devices (Apple TV, Roku), Blu-ray players, and gaming consoles.
  • Support the diagnosis and troubleshooting of audio, video, and signal connectivity issues under the guidance of a senior technician.
  • Learn and perform basic signal strength tests for satellite, cable, and over-the-air antenna systems using specialized meters.
  • Aid in the assembly and setup of A/V furniture, equipment racks, and universal remote programming.
  • Provide clear and friendly explanations to customers on how to operate their newly installed or repaired entertainment systems.
  • Ensure the work area is kept clean, organized, and safe for both the team and the customer throughout the service call.
  • Maintain an accurate inventory of parts, tools, and equipment in the company vehicle, reporting any shortages.
  • Handle and transport delicate and often heavy electronic equipment with utmost care to prevent damage.
  • Accurately complete and submit digital or paper work orders, service logs, and job notes at the conclusion of each appointment.
  • Safely operate a company vehicle to travel to various job sites, adhering to all traffic laws and company driving policies.
  • Communicate effectively with dispatch and the lead technician regarding job status, challenges, and estimated completion times.
  • Prepare and stage all necessary tools, hardware, and equipment for each day's scheduled jobs.

Secondary Functions

  • Perform pre-installation site surveys to assess job requirements, identify potential obstacles, and plan wiring paths.
  • Assist in upgrading firmware and software on TVs, receivers, and other connected devices to ensure optimal performance.
  • Participate in ongoing training sessions to stay current with new products, installation techniques, and industry best practices.
  • Provide feedback to the service manager on common equipment failures or customer issues to help improve processes.
  • Help manage the recycling and disposal of old equipment and packaging materials according to company and environmental guidelines.
  • Under direct supervision, perform minor component-level repairs or part swaps on A/V equipment.
  • Support the setup of basic home networking components, such as Wi-Fi extenders, to ensure reliable streaming performance for smart TVs.

Required Skills & Competencies

Hard Skills (Technical)

  • Proficiency in using a variety of hand and power tools (e.g., drills, screwdrivers, stud finders, wire strippers).
  • Basic knowledge of low-voltage wiring, signal flow, and connectivity standards (HDMI, Coax, Ethernet).
  • Ability to read and interpret installation manuals, basic schematics, and work orders.
  • Familiarity with mounting hardware and techniques for different wall types (drywall, brick, plaster).
  • Comfort with technology and the ability to learn new software and device configurations quickly.
  • Experience with cable termination and testing is a significant plus.

Soft Skills

Education & Experience

Educational Background

Minimum Education:

High School Diploma or equivalent. A valid driver's license with a clean driving record is required.

Preferred Education:

Certificate or Associate's degree from a vocational school in Electronics Technology, Telecommunications, or a related field.
