Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

Operate and monitor tunnel boring machines (TBMs) and associated control panels, systems, and instrumentation, ensuring continuous alignment, production rates and adherence to tunnel design specifications.

Perform preventive maintenance tasks such as lubrication, filter changes, belt/chain adjustments and visual checks to extend equipment life and reduce unexpected downtime.
Load, unload and secure construction materials, segment rings, liners and support components safely using proper rigging, signaling and crane/hoist coordination inside constrained tunnel spaces.
Implement quality control checks on tunnel lining, grout injection, ring assembly and sealing operations, reporting non-conformances and working with engineering to correct deviations.
Enforce and model safety culture: ensure personal protective equipment (PPE) compliance, report hazards, stop unsafe work, and contribute to safety meetings, audits and toolbox talks.
Communicate clearly and frequently with surface control rooms, project management, surveyors and adjacent work crews using radios and digital communication systems to coordinate activities and reduce conflicts.
Perform basic welding, cutting and fitting operations to support temporary repairs and installations, or coordinate skilled trades when specialized work is required.
