Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Own the end-to-end administration of assigned underwriting programs, including the development, maintenance, and distribution of underwriting guidelines, rules matrices, exception processes, and referral criteria to ensure consistent risk selection across channels.

- Configure and test underwriting rules, rate tables, and workflows in policy administration systems, rating engines, and broker portals; coordinate with IT and vendors to manage releases, change requests, and issue resolution.
- Draft, revise, and maintain underwriting manuals, standard operating procedures (SOPs), training curricula, and knowledge base articles to ensure accuracy, accessibility, and auditability of program documentation.

- Support regulatory and compliance activities by preparing documentation for filings, responding to market conduct inquiries, and ensuring underwriting rules adhere to jurisdictional regulations and internal governance policies.
- Implement and manage automated underwriting workflows; identify automation opportunities using business rules, decisioning engines, or machine learning pilots to accelerate straight-through processing and reduce manual touches.
- Oversee quality assurance and audit programs, perform file reviews against established guidelines, and quantify error rates; prepare remediation plans and monitor corrective actions to close audit findings.
- Build and maintain data extracts, dashboards, and ad-hoc analyses using SQL, BI tools, and Excel to inform underwriting decisions, renewal strategies, and program adjustments.
- Coordinate with IT project teams to document business requirements, acceptance criteria, and test cases for system enhancements affecting underwriting logic, rating, or policy issuance workflows.
- Manage program change control, versioning, and communication plans — ensuring stakeholders receive timely updates, impacted processes are updated, and training is delivered prior to go-live.
- Evaluate reinsurance placement impacts on program design and underwriting authority, incorporating reinsurer requirements and facultative practices into underwriting guidelines and referral rules.
- Provide training and enablement to underwriting teams, distribution partners, and customer-facing staff on program changes, tool usage, and guideline interpretations to ensure consistent application of underwriting standards.
- Lead competitive and market intelligence efforts, summarizing competitor product positioning, appetite shifts, and emerging risk trends to inform program enhancements and pricing strategy.
