Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Inspect incoming and outgoing uniforms and garments for damage, stains, sizing issues, missing components, and noncompliance with brand or safety standards; document defects and escalate repeat issues to management with recommended corrective actions.
  • Receive, sort, and process uniforms through industrial washing, dry-cleaning, and finishing equipment, selecting appropriate chemical treatments, wash cycles, and temperature settings based on fabric content and manufacturer care labels.
  • Perform complex alterations and repairs including hemming, seam repairs, patching, zipper replacement, button/fastener installation, and reinforcement of high-wear areas to restore garments to brand-quality standards and ensure employee safety.
  • Operate and maintain a range of sewing and finishing equipment — single-needle, overlock/serger, buttonholers, industrial pressing/ironing machines, and heat-set equipment — troubleshooting mechanical issues and reporting repairs or replacement needs.
  • Execute advanced stain removal and spot treatment using chemistry knowledge, stain testing, and fabric-safe solvents; record effective stain removal processes and maintain MSDS and safe chemical handling practices.
  • Measure employees and perform professional fittings, recording measurements and recommending correct sizes and alterations, ensuring a consistent fit across departments and conformity with uniform policies.
  • Manage garment personalization processes including embroidery and heat-applied patches; set up and operate embroidery machines, verify artwork, and ensure alignment and color accuracy to brand specifications.
  • Oversee uniform inventory lifecycle: receiving shipments, tagging and labeling garments, performing regular cycle counts, managing size assortments, and controlling stock rotation to minimize shrinkage and obsolescence.
  • Issue and collect uniforms per company policy, maintain accurate records of allocations and returns in inventory or ERP/WMS systems, and coordinate replacement orders based on usage trends and damage reports.
  • Prepare garments for distribution using quality checklists, packaging standards, and dispatch schedules to support on-time delivery to departments, field teams, or external service points.
  • Track repair turnaround times, prioritize urgent field requests (e.g., PPE repairs), and maintain throughput targets to ensure operational SLA compliance and minimize downtime for employees reliant on uniforms.
  • Maintain detailed repair logs, alteration records, and customer feedback to support continuous improvement and to inform purchasing decisions for more durable or easier-to-repair garments.
  • Implement and follow safety, housekeeping, and chemical handling protocols for laundering, pressing, and repair areas, including PPE usage, ventilation, and equipment lockout/tagout procedures.
  • Train and mentor entry-level technicians, laundry attendants, and temporary staff on sewing best practices, equipment operation, quality standards, and efficient workflows to scale capacity during peak periods.
  • Coordinate with procurement and supplier partners to source replacement garments, repair materials (thread, zippers, buttons), and spare parts for machines while balancing cost, lead time, and quality.
  • Perform routine preventive maintenance on sewing, pressing, and laundering equipment — oiling, tension adjustments, needle changes, belt inspections — and maintain maintenance logs to maximize uptime.
  • Conduct periodic uniform audits across sites or departments to validate compliance with corporate branding, safety standards, and assigned inventories; prepare audit reports and corrective action plans.
  • Support seasonal and promotional uniform rollouts by staging kits, sizing events, and pop-up fitting clinics; partner with HR and operations to ensure timely distribution and sizing accuracy.
  • Manage returns and disposition of end-of-life garments, determining salvageable components for reuse, recycling, or authorized disposal to reduce waste and control costs.
  • Provide direct customer service to employees and supervisors: resolving sizing disputes, explaining care instructions, handling complaints, and ensuring positive user experiences while representing the company brand.
  • Liaise with health and safety teams to ensure uniforms meet PPE standards when applicable (flame resistance, hi-vis, contamination control), and coordinate testing or certification where mandated.
  • Analyze repair and replacement trends, produce monthly KPI reports (repair rates, turnaround, cost per repair, inventory shrinkage), and recommend design or procurement changes to reduce service costs.
  • Support external vendor relationships for large-scale laundering or specialty cleaning needs, negotiating service agreements, setting quality expectations, and monitoring vendor performance against SLAs.

  • Assist with ad hoc uniform-related projects such as branding refreshes, new garment pilot programs, or cross-site standardization efforts.
  • Support office or field teams with garment-care training sessions, written care guides, and brief visual aids to extend garment life and reduce repair frequency.

Education & Experience

Educational Background

Minimum Education:

  • High school diploma or GED; equivalent vocational training or apprenticeship in sewing, textiles, or garment construction acceptable.

  • Completion of vocational coursework in sewing machine operation or garment alteration.
