Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Supervise, coach and develop a multi-disciplinary team (operators, technicians, customer service reps) to consistently meet daily production, service, and quality targets while maintaining a positive, accountable workplace culture.
  • Plan, create and maintain shift schedules and labor forecasts to optimize staffing levels, meet fluctuating demand, control overtime, and adhere to budgetary targets while ensuring appropriate coverage for critical functions.
  • Monitor and drive key performance indicators (KPIs) including productivity, uptime, first-pass yield, on-time delivery, attendance, safety incident rates and customer satisfaction metrics, producing regular reports for management review.
  • Conduct routine performance evaluations, deliver constructive feedback, implement performance improvement plans when needed, and manage promotions, transfers and disciplinary actions in partnership with HR.
  • Ensure strict compliance with health, safety and environmental regulations (OSHA, local/state codes) and corporate safety programs by enforcing policies, leading toolbox talks, performing safety audits and investigating incidents with root-cause analysis.
  • Oversee quality control activities on the floor—perform inspections, validate corrective actions, reduce non-conformances and work closely with QA teams to preserve product/service standards and regulatory compliance.
  • Lead daily shift handovers and command-and-control activities to ensure seamless transitions between shifts, including documentation of issues, priorities and progress against goals.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives (5S, Lean, Kaizen) by identifying process inefficiencies, facilitating cross-functional improvement events, and tracking savings and cycle-time reductions.
  • Manage inventory and materials handling activities for the assigned area: monitor stock levels, coordinate replenishments, reduce shrinkage, and ensure proper storage and labeling practices.
  • Implement and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs), work instructions and escalation matrices; ensure team adherence and recommend updates based on observed best practices or process changes.
  • Assign and balance work assignments, monitor throughput and reallocate resources to meet urgent demands while minimizing bottlenecks and downtime.
  • Serve as the escalation point for customer service issues and production interruptions, coordinating rapid response actions and communicating status updates to stakeholders and clients.
  • Collaborate with maintenance, engineering, and supply chain to schedule preventive maintenance, troubleshoot equipment failures and minimize production disruption through timely repairs and spare parts management.
  • Manage vendor and temporary labor relationships for shift-specific needs; ensure contractors comply with site rules, safety protocols and performance expectations.
  • Oversee timekeeping approvals, verify hours worked, manage leave and absence escalation, and partner with payroll/HR to resolve discrepancies.
  • Develop and deliver training plans for new hires and existing staff, including on-the-job coaching, certifications, and refresher programs to close skill gaps and increase team capability.
  • Prepare and present operational summaries, variance analyses and improvement recommendations to senior management; create transparent dashboards for leadership and cross-functional teams.
  • Ensure accurate documentation of incidents, corrective actions, audit results and continuous improvement activities to satisfy internal audits and external regulatory inspections.
  • Drive cost control efforts within the area of responsibility by monitoring expenses, minimizing waste, negotiating with suppliers when appropriate, and identifying opportunities for process automation or consolidation.
  • Coordinate cross-functional projects (new product introduction, process changeovers, uptime improvement initiatives), acting as the local project lead to ensure milestones, resources and communication plans are met.
  • Promote and model company values and ethical behavior; foster an inclusive environment that supports diversity, fairness and employee engagement.
  • Manage emergency response readiness for the area: maintain evacuation plans, first-responder training, and clear communication protocols to ensure team safety in crisis situations.
  • Audit and enforce compliance with company policies (attendance, PPE, confidentiality, data protection) through regular checks and corrective coaching.
  • Maintain clear, timely communication with upstream and downstream stakeholders (planning, logistics, sales) to align expectations and minimize customer-impacting issues.

Required Skills & Competencies

Hard Skills (Technical)

  • Shift and workforce scheduling (experience with Kronos, ADP Workforce Now, Deputy or equivalent)
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills (VLOOKUP, pivot tables, data validation) and familiarity with reporting tools / dashboards (Power BI, Tableau)
  • Operational metrics and KPI management (throughput, OEE, yield, cycle time)
  • Quality management and inspection techniques (ISO 9001 awareness, GMP, HACCP where applicable)

Education & Experience

Educational Background

Minimum Education:
High school diploma or equivalent; combination of relevant experience and demonstrable leadership can substitute for formal education.
