Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Lead development and execution of a multi‑year strategic plan for the unit that aligns with the university’s mission and goals, including specific objectives for enrollment growth, program expansion, student retention, and faculty development.
  • Oversee comprehensive budget development, fiscal forecasting, and resource allocation for academic and administrative operations; ensure cost-effectiveness and transparent financial reporting to senior leadership and governing boards.
  • Direct academic program management including curriculum review, program assessment, instructional quality assurance, and development of new certificate, undergraduate, and graduate offerings in response to labor market demand.
  • Serve as the primary operational leader for the unit: supervise department managers, program directors, administrative staff, and provide measurable performance expectations, professional development, and annual evaluations.
  • Drive enrollment management strategies in collaboration with admissions and marketing teams, setting recruitment targets, optimizing yield, improving conversion funnels, and implementing retention interventions to meet headcount and revenue goals.
  • Build and maintain relationships with faculty, including recruitment, tenure-track support, workload planning, sabbatical coordination, promotion processes, and fostering a collegial environment that supports research and teaching excellence.
  • Lead accreditation preparation and compliance activities, coordinating self-studies, evidence collection, policy updates, and responses to accrediting agency inquiries to maintain program and institutional accreditation status.

  • Serve as a key spokesperson and ambassador for the unit at external events, community forums, statewide higher education consortia, and media engagements to strengthen institutional reputation.
  • Lead change management efforts for program redesign, technology adoption (LMS, CRM, ERP), and organizational restructuring; prepare stakeholders, provide training, and measure adoption.

Education & Experience

Educational Background

Minimum Education:

  • Doctoral degree (Ed.D., Ph.D., or equivalent) in Higher Education Leadership, Organizational Leadership, Education Policy, or related field preferred for academic-focused director roles.
