Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Plan, coordinate, and execute unmanned vehicle missions end-to-end: develop mission objectives, create flight/drive plans, calculate risk mitigations, and ensure compliance with local, national, and international regulations (e.g., FAA Part 107, BVLOS waivers, maritime authorities) while optimizing for safety and operational efficiency.

  • Configure, deploy, and operate sensor payloads (optical, thermal/IR, LiDAR, multispectral, sonar, magnetometer, acoustic) and verify data acquisition parameters (frame rate, resolution, geotagging, sampling rates) to ensure consistent, mission-grade data collection.
  • Monitor real-time telemetry, vehicle health, and sensor feeds; detect and respond to anomalies such as telemetry loss, degraded communications, power faults, or sensor errors by executing contingency procedures including return-to-home, safe landing, or controlled recovery.
  • Execute complex flight/drive profiles including waypoint navigation, dynamic re-tasking, autonomous waypoint sequences, geofencing, and precision maneuvers for inspection, mapping, search & rescue, or ISR tasks while maintaining legal separation and safety standards.

  • Implement cybersecurity best practices for vehicle control stations, telemetry links, and data storage: manage encryption, secure communications, authentication, and access controls to protect sensitive mission data and control channels.
  • Support autonomous mission profiles by validating pre-programmed behaviors, supervising behavior trees, and intervening when autonomy deviates from accepted mission parameters; provide operator-in-the-loop control as required.
  • Maintain situational awareness of airspace usage, temporary flight restrictions, NOTAMs, and local laws; submit required flight plans and waivers and adapt missions to legal constraints.

  • Develop and execute test plans for new vehicle or sensor introductions: conduct acceptance testing, performance characterization, and operational limits assessments for inclusion in standard operating procedures.
  • Participate in post-mission data handoff: ensure metadata, timestamps, sensor calibration files, and quality assurance notes accompany imagery, point clouds, or telemetry exports so downstream analysts can process data reliably.
  • Maintain readiness for extended and multi-vehicle operations including swarming, coordinated multi-vehicle sequencing, and interoperable communications to support complex missions requiring synchronized platforms.

Education & Experience

Educational Background

Minimum Education:

  • High school diploma or equivalent with relevant technical certifications and documented operational experience.

Preferred Education:
