Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Operate UPS vehicles (vans, box trucks) safely and lawfully to execute daily package pick-up and delivery routes, ensuring on-time performance and adherence to posted schedules and route sequencing.

- Conduct thorough pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections, report mechanical issues or safety concerns to fleet maintenance, and maintain vehicle cleanliness and safe operation standards.
- Adhere strictly to all traffic laws, DOT regulations, company driving policies, and safety procedures, including secure cargo practices and situational awareness in all weather and traffic conditions.
- Plan, prioritize, and execute delivery stops to maximize route efficiency and on-time deliveries while minimizing fuel consumption and drive time, using GPS and company route optimization tools.
- Handle special delivery situations including oversized packages, fragile items, deliveries requiring signatures, restricted access locations, and gate codes while maintaining documentation and following customer instructions.
- Maintain accurate delivery manifests, paperwork, and daily logs; reconcile packages at the start and end of shift and report any discrepancies immediately.
- Safeguard customer privacy and package integrity by following security protocols, verifying recipient identity when necessary, and ensuring packages are left in secure locations per instructions.
- Work collaboratively with dispatch, preload teams, and other drivers to manage route changes, urgent pick-ups, and high-volume periods such as peak season or inclement weather.
- Follow established protocols for returned, refused, or undeliverable packages, documenting reasons and coordinating next steps with dispatch or local hub personnel.
- Participate in required training and safety meetings, complete mandated certifications, and demonstrate continual improvement in driving performance and customer interaction skills.
- Use handheld devices and onboard technology to communicate status updates, obtain electronic signatures, and provide delivery confirmations, ensuring data integrity and timely communication.
- Respond proactively to on-route issues such as traffic delays, road closures, or customer availability, adjusting sequence and communicating with dispatch while keeping customer service top of mind.
- Assist with loading and preloading of delivery vehicles when staffing requires, ensuring accurate placement of packages according to route order and minimizing handling errors.

Required Skills & Competencies
Hard Skills (Technical)
- Valid state driver’s license with an excellent driving record; commercial driver’s license (CDL) preferred or required for tractor-trailer roles.
- Proficient operation of UPS delivery vehicles (sprinter vans, box trucks) and familiarity with vehicle controls, load securing, and basic troubleshooting.
