Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Review, analyze, and moderate user-generated content in Urdu — including text posts, comments, images, audio clips, and short-form video — ensuring decisions are consistent with company policy and local law while documenting rationales in the moderation platform.
  • Apply community guidelines, safety policies, and platform-specific rules to identify and remove content that violates policies for hate speech, harassment, sexual content, graphic violence, self-harm, and illegal activity, with careful consideration of Urdu-language idioms, dialects, and euphemisms.
  • Make context-aware moderation decisions that account for cultural references, satire, sarcasm, regional dialects (e.g., Pakistani Urdu, Indian Urdu), and transliteration, ensuring fair outcomes and minimizing false positives/negatives.
  • Accurately tag and classify content with detailed reason codes, policy references, and metadata to support auditing, reporting, and appeals processing while maintaining high accuracy and clear written rationales in Urdu and English as required.
  • Escalate high-risk or legally sensitive cases (threats of violence, organized hate, sexual exploitation of minors, terrorism-related content) to senior trust & safety, legal, or law enforcement liaisons following established escalation workflows and SLAs.
  • Process user appeals and requests for content review, re-evaluating prior moderation decisions, documenting changes and rationale, and communicating outcomes to relevant internal teams for trend analysis.
  • Label and annotate datasets in Urdu to support machine learning model training and validation, applying rigorous annotation standards and recording edge cases to improve classifier performance on Urdu-language content.
  • Conduct quality assurance reviews and peer audits to ensure consistency across reviewers, provide constructive feedback, and maintain or improve team accuracy and SLA metrics.
  • Monitor real-time content streams and surge events (e.g., breaking news, viral incidents) for emergent harm patterns in Urdu-speaking communities and implement triage to reduce safety risk and misinformation spread.
  • Collaborate with product and engineering teams to provide input on content moderation tool improvements, localization needs, and UI/UX enhancements that increase efficiency for Urdu-language workflows.
  • Draft and maintain localized policy playbooks, examples, and training materials in Urdu and bilingual formats that clarify policy application for region-specific contexts and language nuances.
  • Participate in cross-functional policy discussions to highlight ambiguous or novel content types seen in Urdu communities and recommend policy clarifications or new rules based on operational experience.
  • Track, analyze, and report moderation metrics (accuracy, throughput, appeal overturn rate, time-to-action) for Urdu language moderation queues and recommend process improvements based on data trends.
  • Provide first-hand cultural and linguistic guidance to global trust & safety teams to ensure platform policies and enforcement actions are sensitive to Urdu cultural norms and local legal constraints.
  • Support onboarding and training of new Urdu moderation hires by delivering scenario-based training sessions, reviewing initial decisions, and documenting typical edge cases and best practices.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality and data privacy standards when handling user reports and sensitive content; follow required protocols for data handling and internal reporting.
  • Participate in scheduled on-call rotations or shift work to cover 24/7 moderation needs across time zones and to respond rapidly to incidents affecting Urdu-speaking communities.
  • Identify repeat offenders and coordinated behavior patterns (sockpuppets, coordinated harassment) in Urdu networks and work with investigation and trust & safety teams to mitigate coordinated harm.
  • Contribute to content taxonomy and taxonomy refinement for Urdu-language tags, lexicons, and slang dictionaries used by moderation systems and automated filters.
  • Assist product teams by localizing new feature releases and help define safe defaults for content surfaced to Urdu-speaking users, including advising on community labeling and warnings.
  • Maintain personal resilience and wellbeing practices while reviewing potentially distressing content; follow company protocols for access to mental health support and debriefing after severe incidents.
  • Support ad-hoc projects such as manual review campaigns for emergent policy areas (e.g., disinformation, deepfakes) where Urdu fluency and cultural context are essential for accurate classification.
  • Document and share learnings from complex or precedent-setting cases to build a searchable knowledge base that improves future moderation outcomes.

Secondary Functions

  • Support ad-hoc data requests and exploratory data analysis.
  • Contribute to the organization's data strategy and roadmap.
  • Collaborate with business units to translate data needs into engineering requirements.
  • Participate in sprint planning and agile ceremonies within the data engineering team.
  • Assist product and policy teams with user-facing educational content that explains moderation decisions in Urdu.
  • Participate in community outreach or creator support initiatives to reduce repeat violations through education and engagement.
  • Help design and test automated pre-filter rules and lexicons for Urdu to improve machine-first detection without increasing false positives.
