Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Supervise and coordinate daily operations of urology clinics and associated perioperative services, ensuring efficient patient flow across pre-op, intra-op and post-op settings and minimizing patient wait times.
  • Lead recruitment, onboarding, scheduling and retention of nursing and support staff in the urology service line; maintain appropriate staffing levels, manage shift coverage and approve time-off requests.

  • Oversee perioperative processes including pre-operative assessments, consent verification, sterile technique adherence and post-anesthesia recovery to ensure patient safety and regulatory compliance.
  • Monitor quality metrics and patient outcome indicators (infection rates, readmissions, on-time starts, patient satisfaction scores); lead root-cause analysis and continuous improvement projects to address performance gaps.
  • Ensure regulatory and accreditation compliance (CMS, Joint Commission, state licensing) for urology services; prepare for and respond to audits and inspections.
  • Coordinate credentialing and privileging processes for providers and allied health staff working in urology clinics and ORs; maintain up-to-date licensure and certifications for the team.
  • Oversee supply chain and inventory management for urology-specific supplies, implants and disposables; manage vendor relationships and evaluate cost-saving opportunities without compromising care quality.
  • Work with finance to develop and monitor departmental budgets, identify opportunities for revenue optimization, control overtime and supply expenses, and support capital equipment requests.
  • Ensure accurate and compliant clinical documentation and charge capture for procedures and visits; partner with billing and coding teams to resolve claims denials and improve billing accuracy (CPT/ICD-10).
  • Serve as the subject matter expert for urology workflows in the electronic medical record (EMR); lead optimization projects, build order sets, templates, and surgeon-specific bundles to improve usability and compliance (Epic, Cerner, or other EMRs).
  • Design and deliver continuing education, simulation and competency assessments for nursing and procedural staff around urology-specific skills (catheterization, cystoscopy prep, specimen handling, continence care).
  • Implement infection prevention and sterile processing protocols specific to urology instrumentation; collaborate with Central Sterile to ensure reprocessing and tracking standards.
  • Act as liaison between urology physicians, advanced practice providers (APPs), anesthesia, radiology, pathology and administration to coordinate multidisciplinary care and resolve operational issues.
  • Lead patient experience initiatives, address patient complaints and grievances, and implement follow-up processes to improve satisfaction and retention.
  • Develop and maintain emergency response protocols relevant to urology procedures (e.g., hemorrhage, urinary retention, anaphylaxis) and ensure staff competence in rapid response and ACLS/BLS requirements.
  • Track and report key performance indicators (KPIs) including procedure volume, throughput times, cancellation rates, supply utilization and staff productivity; present findings to department leadership and recommend corrective actions.
  • Mentor, coach and evaluate staff performance through regular feedback, performance reviews, competency validation and individualized development plans; administer progressive discipline when necessary.
  • Coordinate research support and quality-improvement studies related to urology practice when applicable, including IRB communication, data collection and protocol adherence.
  • Manage equipment lifecycle for urology-specific devices and diagnostic tools (cystoscopes, lithotripsy equipment); coordinate preventive maintenance, repairs and vendor service contracts.
  • Facilitate preauthorization workflows for urology procedures and durable medical equipment; work with payor liaison and revenue cycle teams to ensure approvals are in place prior to elective procedures.

Educational Background

Minimum Education:
