Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Own the UX product backlog end-to-end: write clear user stories and acceptance criteria, prioritize based on user value, business impact, technical feasibility, and research insights, and refine with design and engineering on a recurring cadence.
  • Define and communicate a compelling UX product vision and roadmap that aligns user needs, business goals, and technical constraints; regularly update roadmap artifacts and present progress to executive stakeholders.
  • Translate qualitative user research and quantitative analytics into actionable features and experiments; synthesize findings into personas, journey maps, and prioritized opportunity areas that drive backlog decisions.
  • Lead discovery efforts with designers and researchers: plan and run user interviews, usability tests, contextual inquiry, A/B tests and prototype validation to de-risk major product decisions and iterate rapidly.
  • Collaborate daily with UX designers to ensure design solutions are feasible, aligned to the product vision, and maintain consistency with the organization’s design system and interaction patterns.
  • Partner with engineering leads to decompose features into deliverable tasks, estimate effort, and remove impediments to delivery while maintaining a user-first mindset in trade-off discussions.
  • Define and track UX and product metrics (e.g., task success rate, time-on-task, retention, conversion, NPS) to measure the effectiveness of design changes and prioritize the backlog based on measurable outcomes.
  • Create and maintain product artifacts (user stories, acceptance criteria, wireframes, prototypes, release notes) and ensure traceability between user needs, design decisions and shipped outcomes.
  • Run sprint planning, backlog grooming, sprint demos and retrospectives as the Product Owner in Agile/Scrum ceremonies and act as the single-source owner for priority decisions during sprints.
  • Champion accessibility and inclusive design (WCAG compliance) across feature development; ensure accessibility criteria are included in acceptance criteria and validated in testing.
  • Define and manage release planning and go-to-market readiness for UX-focused releases: coordinate with marketing, customer success, operations and support to ensure clear communication and adoption.
  • Facilitate stakeholder alignment and governance: synthesize competing requests into a prioritized roadmap, present trade-offs transparently, and secure executive buy-in for key UX initiatives.
  • Drive continuous improvement of the UX design system and patterns: identify reusable components, document usage guidelines, and partner with front-end teams to enable consistency and velocity.
  • Lead cross-functional discovery workshops (e.g., story mapping, design sprints, hypothesis workshops) to align teams on user problems, success criteria and minimum lovable product scope.
  • Manage and prioritize technical debt and UX debt remediation: balance new feature delivery with usability improvements, refactors and performance optimization to maintain a healthy product.
  • Act as the voice of the customer internally by evangelizing user insights, case studies, and success stories; translate customer impact into measurable KPIs that inform roadmap prioritization.
  • Run and interpret product experiments and A/B tests end-to-end: define hypotheses, success metrics, sampling strategy, and post-test analysis to inform permanent changes or continued iteration.
  • Support product discovery by drafting problem statements, success metrics and experiment plans; ensure prototypes and early releases gather the right learning to inform build decisions.
  • Mentor and coach junior product owners, product managers and designers on user-centered product practices, agile delivery, and stakeholder communication.
  • Manage privacy and compliance constraints in UX decisions by partnering with legal, security and data teams to ensure features respect data protection policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain strong documentation and handoffs: ensure design specifications, interaction details, and edge-case behaviors are clear to engineers to reduce rework and accelerate delivery.
  • Escalate and resolve critical user-impact issues in production by coordinating rapid UX triage, hotfix prioritization, and clear communications to affected customers and internal teams.
  • Participate in hiring and talent planning for product and UX teams: help evaluate candidates, define role requirements, and contribute to building a high-performing UX-product discipline.

Secondary Functions

  • Conduct periodic competitive UX benchmarking and market scans to keep the product informed of industry trends, emerging design patterns, and competitor feature movements.
  • Support ad-hoc stakeholder requests for customer insights and feature feasibility assessments, providing clear recommendations and prioritization rationale.
  • Contribute to cross-team initiatives such as internationalization, localization, and platform migrations by advising on UX impacts and gating criteria for feature readiness.
  • Collaborate with analytics and data engineering to define event instrumentation for UX metrics and ensure accurate tracking for experiment and performance analysis.
  • Support customer success and sales enablement with UX artifacts, demos and training materials to improve onboarding and reduce friction for new users.
  • Participate in organizational UX governance forums to ensure alignment on design system updates, accessibility standards, and product usability goals.

Required Skills & Competencies

Hard Skills (Technical)

  • Product backlog management and user story writing (strong experience using JIRA, Azure DevOps, or similar tools).
  • UX research and usability testing (planning, moderating, analyzing results, and synthesizing insights into product decisions).
  • Prototyping and interaction design tools: Figma, Sketch, Adobe XD, InVision, or equivalent for reviewing and validating designs with stakeholders.
  • Analytics and experimentation platforms: Google Analytics, Mixpanel, Amplitude, Optimizely or equivalent to define and interpret UX KPIs and A/B tests.
  • Design systems & component libraries: experience enforcing or contributing to shared UI systems and documenting design tokens and patterns.

  • A/B test design and analysis skills including hypothesis-driven experimentation and statistical significance basics.
  • Documentation and collaboration tools fluency: Confluence, Notion, Miro, or similar for artifact creation and asynchronous stakeholder work.

Education & Experience

Educational Background

Minimum Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), Interaction Design, Computer Science, Psychology, Human Factors, Information Architecture, Product Management or related field.

Preferred Education:

  • Master’s degree or professional certification in HCI, UX, Product Management (e.g., Certified Scrum Product Owner), or related discipline.

Experience Requirements

  • Proven track record of running usability studies, designing and analyzing A/B experiments, and shipping UX-driven product releases that improved key user metrics.
  • Experience working in Agile/Scrum teams and partnering closely with cross-functional design and engineering squads in a digital product environment.
