Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Lead and manage a small team of UX/product designers, providing coaching, performance feedback, career development, and resource planning to deliver high-quality product experiences.
  • Define and communicate UX strategy and product design roadmap in collaboration with product managers, engineers, and marketing to align user experience goals with business KPIs.
  • Own the end-to-end UX design process for multiple features: user research, discovery workshops, journey mapping, wireframes, prototypes, visual design, and handoff to engineering.
  • Conduct and synthesize qualitative and quantitative user research (interviews, contextual inquiry, surveys, analytics) to inform product hypotheses and prioritize the design backlog.
  • Create low- and high-fidelity prototypes (Figma, Sketch, Adobe XD, InVision) and validate concepts through moderated and unmoderated usability testing, A/B testing, and beta programs.
  • Translate user insights and business requirements into clear design specs, acceptance criteria, user stories, and well-prioritized design tasks for Agile sprints.
  • Collaborate closely with product managers to define experiments, success metrics (conversion, retention, NPS), and tracking instrumentation to measure UX impact and iterate rapidly.
  • Establish and maintain a coherent design system, component library, and UX patterns to ensure consistency, accessibility, scalability, and faster time-to-market.
  • Advocate for accessibility (WCAG) and inclusive design practices across product teams; oversee accessibility audits and remediation plans.
  • Drive cross-functional alignment through regular stakeholder syncs, design reviews, demos, and roadmap planning sessions to ensure transparency and buy-in.
  • Prioritize and manage a dynamic UX backlog, balancing discovery, redesign, technical constraints, and business priorities to maximize ROI.
  • Mentor designers on craft, process, and portfolio development; lead hiring and onboarding for UX roles and contractors when needed.
  • Partner with engineering leads to ensure design fidelity during implementation, resolve trade-offs, and ship polished user experiences on time.
  • Lead post-launch analysis and retrospectives; surface learnings, iterate on shipped experiences, and communicate results to executives and stakeholders.
  • Manage external research vendors, usability labs, and freelance designers to scale research and production capability when internal capacity is limited.
  • Drive product accessibility improvements, performance optimization, and cross-platform parity across web, mobile (iOS/Android), and responsive experiences.
  • Define KPIs for UX work, build dashboards with analytics teams (GA, Mixpanel, Amplitude), and publish monthly and quarterly UX performance reports.
  • Facilitate cross-team workshops (design sprints, discovery, co-creation) to solve complex UX problems and ensure collaborative decision making.
  • Balance exploration and execution: run rapid experiments to validate hypotheses while delivering stable, production-ready UI components and micro-interactions.
  • Translate competitive and market research into differentiated UX features and experience innovations that deliver business value and delight users.
  • Ensure product documentation, design specifications, and interaction patterns are well-documented, versioned, and searchable for the broader organization.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert for customer-facing teams (sales, support, onboarding) to align product training, help content, and release communications with UX changes.
  • Oversee risk assessment for major UX changes, including regression testing plans, stakeholder sign-off, and phased rollouts to mitigate user impact.

Education & Experience

Educational Background

Minimum Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Design, Human-Computer Interaction, Interaction Design, Cognitive Science, Human Factors, Computer Science, Psychology, or a related field.

Preferred Education:

  • Master's degree or Advanced Certification in Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), Interaction Design, Design Management, or MBA with product focus.
