- Maintain accurate daily logs, work orders, service records, GIS updates and digital forms using tablets or mobile field software to ensure asset-tracking and billing accuracy.
- Install and maintain valves, blowoffs, hydrants and service taps to support system operations, isolation and maintenance activities, and assist in system reconfigurations.
- Perform routine preventive maintenance on utility assets—valve exercising, hydrant lubrication, manhole inspection and debris removal—to extend asset life and reduce outages.
- Apply safety control measures (PPE, lockout/tagout, energy control) while coordinating with supervisors to mitigate hazards and train new crew members on standard safe work practices.
- Coordinate with property owners, contractors and public agencies on site access, permitting, traffic control and restoration plans to minimize community disruption.
- Support meter change-out programs, AMI/AMR installations and upgrades; troubleshoot communication or transmitter issues and escalate to technical teams when necessary.
- Maintain inventory of consumables, parts and materials; requisition and stage replacement components to support efficient work orders and emergency response.
- Follow environmental controls for spill prevention, dewatering and proper disposal of contaminated soils, ensuring compliance with environmental regulations and company policies.
- Assist with seasonal operations such as freeze protection, thawing stuck meters/pipes and managing storm response to keep utilities operational during extreme weather.
Secondary Functions
- Provide input on process improvements, job safety analyses (JSAs) and standard operating procedures for field operations.
- Mentor and train newer crew members on equipment operation, safe excavation practices, and company protocols.
- Support inventory tracking and vehicle/equipment preventative maintenance scheduling.
