Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Plan, design, and conduct mixed-methods user research (qualitative interviews, contextual inquiries, diary studies, and remote moderated/unmoderated usability testing) to answer product and design questions and validate hypotheses.
  • Synthesize qualitative and quantitative data into clear, prioritized insights, personas, user journeys, and evidence-based recommendations that inform product roadmaps and design decisions.
  • Create high-fidelity and low-fidelity prototypes, annotated wireframes, interaction flows, and clickable mockups to test and communicate design concepts with stakeholders and development teams.
  • Design and run A/B and multivariate experiments in partnership with Product and Data teams, define success metrics, and analyze experiment results to determine UX impact and iterate on product features.
  • Establish, track, and communicate UX metrics and KPIs (task success, time on task, SUS, NPS, engagement, retention funnels) to measure product usability and inform strategic decisions.
  • Conduct heuristic evaluations and expert reviews to rapidly surface usability problems, prioritize fixes, and quantify potential UX debt across platforms.
  • Use product analytics tools (e.g., Google Analytics, Amplitude, Mixpanel) and event instrumentation to analyze behavioral data, identify friction points, and triangulate findings with qualitative research.
  • Facilitate stakeholder workshops, co-creation sessions, and design sprints to align teams around user problems and converge on actionable solutions.
  • Translate research outputs into clear acceptance criteria, interaction specifications, and user stories for engineering implementation, ensuring design integrity through development.
  • Maintain and evolve the design system components documentation and interaction patterns to ensure consistent UX and reduce development rework.
  • Lead usability testing cycles, recruit representative participants, prepare test scripts, moderate sessions, and produce detailed reports with prioritized recommendations and supporting evidence.
  • Advocate for inclusive design and ensure products meet accessibility standards (WCAG), conducting accessibility audits and recommending remediation strategies.
  • Create and maintain a searchable research repository and knowledge base with recorded sessions, transcripts, synthesis artifacts, and impact case studies to accelerate organizational learning.
  • Partner with Product Managers to translate user needs into prioritized product backlog items and help estimate research and implementation effort.
  • Conduct competitive benchmarking and market research to inform product positioning and identify opportunities for differentiation in user experience.
  • Collaborate closely with engineering teams to validate interaction details during sprint cycles, perform UX acceptance testing, and resolve implementation gaps.
  • Communicate research findings and design rationale effectively to cross-functional stakeholders through presentations, workshops, and executive summaries that drive decision-making.
  • Mentor junior researchers and designers on research methodologies, usability testing best practices, and data-driven storytelling to raise organizational UX maturity.
  • Support localization research and adaptation of UX for global markets by identifying cultural and language-specific usability issues and recommending localized solutions.
  • Quantify the return on investment (ROI) of UX initiatives by tracking downstream business metrics (conversion, retention, support costs) and building case studies that show impact.

Secondary Functions

  • Support ad-hoc research requests and rapid discovery spikes to unblock product decisions and support go-to-market timelines.
  • Contribute to the organization's UX strategy and research roadmap by prioritizing studies that align with product goals and business outcomes.
  • Collaborate with business units and product teams to translate user insights into engineering requirements and well-defined acceptance criteria.
  • Participate in sprint planning, stand-ups, retrospectives, and other agile ceremonies to integrate research cadence with product delivery.
  • Assist in recruiting and managing external research vendors, panels, and participant incentives when scaling studies.
  • Triage and escalate critical usability issues discovered in production, coordinating quick patches or feature rollbacks when user safety or major business metrics are at risk.
  • Maintain dashboards and regular reporting of UX KPIs for leadership and cross-functional teams, highlighting trends and opportunities.
  • Provide quality assurance on implemented features from a UX perspective and validate that user journeys meet the intended experience and accessibility requirements.
  • Help customer support and success teams by providing research-based guidance for user escalations and recurring usability complaints.
  • Support content strategy by evaluating microcopy and information architecture to improve clarity, discoverability, and task completion.

Required Skills & Competencies

Hard Skills (Technical)

  • User research methodologies: in-depth interviews, contextual inquiry, diary studies, card sorting, tree testing, and usability testing (moderated & unmoderated).
  • Prototyping and wireframing using Figma, Sketch, Adobe XD, InVision, or similar tools.
  • Interaction design and information architecture: creating flows, sitemaps, and navigational models that scale across platforms.
  • Product analytics: experience with Google Analytics, Mixpanel, Amplitude, Heap or similar to instrument events and analyze funnels.
  • A/B testing and experimentation design: setting up hypotheses, defining metrics, and interpreting statistical results.
  • Accessibility standards and testing (WCAG guidelines, screen reader testing, color contrast tools).
  • Qualitative analysis and synthesis techniques, including affinity mapping, thematic coding, and storytelling with evidence.

Education & Experience

Educational Background

Minimum Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), Psychology, Cognitive Science, Industrial Design, Information Science, Human Factors, Computer Science, or a related field.

Preferred Education:

  • Master’s degree in Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), Cognitive Psychology, Design Research, Human Factors, or MBA with relevant UX focus.

Experience Requirements

Preferred: 3–7 years with proven track record of leading end-to-end research initiatives, running A/B experiments, and influencing product outcomes; prior experience in SaaS, fintech, e-commerce, or mobile-first products is a plus.
