Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Accurately and safely administer intramuscular and subcutaneous vaccinations to patients of all ages, adhering to established clinical guidelines.
  • Conduct thorough pre-vaccination health screenings and patient interviews to identify any contraindications or precautions.
  • Verify patient identity, review their medical history, and cross-reference immunization records to ensure the correct vaccine and dosage are provided.
  • Obtain informed consent from patients or their legal guardians after clearly explaining the benefits, risks, and potential side effects of the vaccine.
  • Meticulously draw up vaccine doses from multi-dose vials, ensuring precision, sterility, and adherence to manufacturer instructions.
  • Provide clear, empathetic, and age-appropriate education to patients and their families regarding the immunization being administered and post-vaccination care.
  • Directly observe patients during the post-vaccination monitoring period, promptly identifying and responding to any adverse reactions, including syncope or anaphylaxis.
  • Initiate emergency response protocols and administer basic life support (BLS) or first aid as needed until advanced medical support arrives.
  • Maintain strict adherence to infection control standards, including proper hand hygiene, use of personal protective equipment (PPE), and aseptic technique.
  • Accurately and promptly document all vaccination details, patient information, and consent forms into the electronic medical record (EMR) or other designated tracking systems.
  • Manage and maintain the vaccine cold chain by properly storing, handling, and monitoring vaccine temperatures to ensure their viability and effectiveness.
  • Prepare and organize the vaccination station with all necessary supplies, including needles, syringes, alcohol swabs, bandages, and emergency medications.

Secondary Functions

  • Assist in managing the flow of patients through the vaccination site to ensure an efficient, orderly, and positive experience for everyone.
  • Perform daily inventory checks of vaccines and medical supplies, reporting any shortages or discrepancies to the site supervisor for timely replenishment.
  • Properly handle and dispose of all biohazardous waste, such as used needles and syringes, according to strict safety and environmental regulations.
  • Contribute to the setup and teardown of mobile or temporary vaccination clinics, including the arrangement of stations, signage, and patient waiting areas.
  • Support administrative and clerical duties as needed, such as data entry, filing paperwork, and answering non-clinical patient questions.
  • Maintain a clean, sanitized, and well-organized work environment in compliance with health and safety standards.
  • Collaborate effectively with a diverse team of nurses, administrative staff, and volunteers to achieve daily vaccination goals.

Required Skills & Competencies
