Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Develop and execute comprehensive micro-plans for routine immunization and supplementary immunization activities (SIAs), ensuring alignment with national and global health strategies.
- Oversee the end-to-end management of the vaccine supply chain, including forecasting vaccine needs, coordinating procurement, and ensuring uninterrupted availability at service delivery points.
- Guarantee the integrity of the vaccine cold chain system at all levels by implementing rigorous temperature monitoring, maintenance protocols, and contingency planning for equipment failures.
- Lead the planning, coordination, and execution of large-scale vaccination campaigns, including logistical arrangements, resource allocation, and personnel management.
- Establish and manage a robust monitoring and evaluation (M&E) framework to track key performance indicators (KPIs) such as vaccination coverage, dropout rates, and vaccine wastage.
- Conduct regular field supervision and supportive visits to health facilities and vaccination sites to provide on-the-job training, mentorship, and quality assurance.
- Manage and analyze immunization data using health information systems (like DHIS2) to identify trends, coverage gaps, and areas requiring targeted intervention.
- Prepare and submit timely, high-quality programmatic reports for internal stakeholders, government partners, and international donors, detailing progress against targets.
- Ensure the effective implementation of systems for monitoring and responding to Adverse Events Following Immunization (AEFI) in collaboration with national surveillance bodies.
- Coordinate with national and sub-national health authorities to support the introduction of new vaccines into the routine immunization schedule.
- Facilitate capacity-building initiatives, including designing and delivering training programs for healthcare workers on vaccine administration, cold chain, and data management.
- Manage program budgets, ensuring all financial transactions and expenditures are in line with organizational policies and donor requirements.
- Develop and implement strategies for community mobilization and social engagement to increase vaccine acceptance, address misinformation, and generate demand for immunization services.
- Act as the primary technical point of contact for all matters related to vaccine management, immunization services, and control of vaccine-preventable diseases (VPDs).
- Perform regular assessments of health facility readiness and capacity to provide quality immunization services, identifying and addressing any bottlenecks.
- Champion the integration of immunization services with other primary healthcare interventions, such as maternal and child health programs, to maximize impact.
- Represent the organization in relevant technical working groups, coordination meetings, and forums with partners like WHO, UNICEF, Gavi, and the Ministry of Health.
