Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Warmly and professionally greet all guests upon their arrival, opening vehicle doors and providing a welcoming first point of contact that sets a positive tone for their visit.
  • Clearly and courteously explain the valet parking procedures, associated fees, and vehicle retrieval process to guests, ensuring they feel informed and comfortable.
  • Safely and efficiently park and retrieve guest vehicles in a timely manner, expertly navigating designated parking areas, tight spaces, and high-traffic zones with extreme caution.
  • Conduct a thorough vehicle inspection with the guest upon arrival, meticulously documenting any pre-existing scratches, dents, or damage on the valet ticket to prevent liability issues.
  • Issue and accurately manage numbered valet tickets, ensuring all vehicle information, key tag numbers, and guest details are correctly recorded for flawless vehicle identification and retrieval.
  • Maintain strict and secure control over all guest vehicle keys, adhering to all security protocols for key storage, tagging, and handling to ensure the absolute safety of guest property.
  • Operate a wide range of vehicles, including luxury models, sports cars, and oversized vehicles with both manual and automatic transmissions, demonstrating confidence and expert skill.
  • Proactively monitor and manage the flow of traffic in the driveway and porte-cochère, directing vehicles and pedestrians to maintain a safe, efficient, and orderly environment.
  • Anticipate guest needs by being observant and ready to provide assistance before it is requested, such as offering directions or an umbrella, thereby enhancing the overall service experience.
  • Communicate effectively with other valets, bell staff, and front desk personnel via two-way radio or in person to coordinate smooth guest arrivals and departures.
  • Handle guest payments for valet services, accurately processing cash and credit card transactions using a Point-of-Sale (POS) system and managing a cash bank where applicable.
  • Maintain a polished, professional appearance and impeccable grooming at all times, adhering strictly to the uniform standards as a key representative of the establishment's brand.
  • Respond to guest complaints or concerns with empathy and professionalism, seeking to resolve issues promptly or escalating them to a supervisor or manager when necessary.
  • Provide a fond and professional farewell to all departing guests, assisting them into their vehicle, wishing them safe travels, and inviting them to return, creating a lasting positive impression.

Secondary Functions

  • Assist guests with loading and unloading luggage and personal belongings from their vehicles, offering physical assistance with a helpful and professional demeanor.
  • Maintain the cleanliness, safety, and organization of the valet stand, key locker, and immediate front drive area, promptly clearing any debris or hazards.
  • Act as a knowledgeable local resource, providing guests with accurate directions, information about property services, and recommendations for local attractions or restaurants.
  • Perform basic security functions by remaining vigilant, observing and reporting any unusual or suspicious activity in parking areas or on the property to the appropriate security personnel.
  • Conduct regular patrols or spot-checks of the parking garage or lot to ensure vehicles are secure and to identify any potential safety or maintenance issues.
  • Prepare for peak traffic periods by organizing keys for expected departures, staging vehicles when appropriate, and ensuring the valet station is adequately stocked with supplies.
  • Complete daily operational logs, shift hand-over reports, and administrative tasks related to vehicle counts and ticket reconciliation with accuracy and attention to detail.

Required Skills & Competencies

Hard Skills (Technical)

  • Valid State-Issued Driver's License: A current, valid license and a clean Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) are non-negotiable.
  • Vehicle Operation Proficiency: Ability to expertly and safely operate both manual (stick-shift) and automatic transmission vehicles of various sizes.
  • Key Control Management: Familiarity with secure key storage, tagging, and electronic or manual tracking systems.
  • Spatial Awareness: Excellent judgment of space and distance for maneuvering vehicles in confined and high-pressure environments.
  • Cash Handling & POS Operation: Experience accurately handling cash transactions and operating point-of-sale systems.

Education & Experience

Educational Background

Minimum Education:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent (GED).

Preferred Education:

  • Certificate or coursework in Hospitality, Tourism, or Customer Service.

Experience Requirements

Typical Experience Range: 0-2 years of experience in a customer-facing role.

Preferred: 1+ years of previous experience as a valet attendant, especially in a luxury hotel, high-end restaurant, or hospital environment, is highly desirable. Experience in any role requiring a high degree of customer interaction and responsibility is also valued.
