Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Interpret complex engineering blueprints, technical drawings, and work orders to determine the precise requirements for van body construction and customization projects.
- Execute high-quality MIG and TIG welding on various metals, primarily aluminum and steel, to construct, modify, and repair van body frames, subframes, and panels.
- Fabricate and shape metal components such as brackets, reinforcements, and custom fittings using tools like metal shears, benders, grinders, and plasma cutters.
- Assemble and install the main structural components of the van body, ensuring perfect alignment, fit, and structural integrity according to design specifications.
- Install various types of flooring systems, including specialist non-slip surfaces, wood, and composite materials, ensuring a level and secure foundation.
- Precisely cut and fit interior paneling, insulation, and roof lining to create a finished and thermally efficient internal space.
- Mount and secure a wide range of interior equipment, including custom shelving units, racking systems, workbenches, and specialized storage solutions.
- Install safety partitions, bulkheads, and window guards to separate the cab from the cargo area and enhance driver and occupant safety.
- Integrate 12V electrical systems, including auxiliary lighting, power inverters, beacon lights, backup cameras, and other electronic accessories, ensuring all wiring is safe and properly routed.
- Diagnose and perform complex structural and cosmetic repairs on damaged van bodies resulting from accidents or wear and tear.
- Skillfully replace damaged exterior panels, corner caps, roofing, and side rails, ensuring a seamless and weather-tight finish.
- Operate a wide range of hand tools, power tools, and pneumatic tools safely and effectively to complete all fabrication and assembly tasks.
- Conduct thorough quality control inspections at various stages of the build process to ensure work meets company standards and technical specifications.
- Perform final pre-delivery inspections (PDI) to verify that all components are installed correctly, function as intended, and the vehicle is clean and ready for the customer.
- Apply industrial-grade sealants, caulking, and adhesives to create weatherproof seals on all joints, seams, and fittings.
- Mount external accessories such as roof racks, ladder racks, lift gates, and side steps, ensuring they are securely fastened and fully operational.
- Accurately document all work performed, materials used, and time spent on each project using the company's designated job tracking system.
- Adhere strictly to all company and industry health and safety protocols, including the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Troubleshoot and resolve unforeseen fabrication or assembly issues that arise during the build process, applying strong problem-solving skills.
- Collaborate effectively with team members, including other specialists, designers, and supervisors, to ensure efficient workflow and project completion.
Secondary Functions
- Assist in the training and mentoring of apprentices and junior technicians, sharing knowledge and best practices.
- Contribute to the organization's continuous improvement initiatives by providing feedback on designs, materials, and processes.

Educational Background
