Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Receive and process incoming cash, coin, and check deposits from commercial clients and armored carriers, ensuring strict adherence to chain-of-custody protocols.
  • Accurately verify the contents of deposit bags and envelopes against customer-provided deposit slips, identifying and documenting any discrepancies immediately.
  • Operate high-speed currency counters, sorters, and scanners to efficiently and accurately count, sort, and strap currency.
  • Prepare and consolidate currency and coin shipments for the Federal Reserve, correspondent banks, and ATM networks, ensuring all orders are fulfilled precisely.
  • Maintain a meticulous, error-free balance of all vault assets, including individual teller drawers, main vault inventories, and ATM holdings, performing daily reconciliations.
  • Utilize a 10-key calculator and data entry systems to log all transactions, adjustments, and inventory movements with exceptional accuracy and speed.
  • Monitor and maintain optimal cash inventory levels within the vault, placing orders and processing shipments to meet daily operational demands.
  • Enforce and adhere to all security policies and procedures, including dual-control access, time-lock management, and surveillance monitoring, to prevent loss and ensure a secure environment.
  • Identify and report suspicious activities or transactions in accordance with Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) and Anti-Money Laundering (AML) regulations.
  • Conduct regular audits and cycle counts of vault inventory, collaborating with supervisors and internal auditors to ensure compliance and accountability.
  • Balance and manage the vault's general ledger, researching and resolving any out-of-balance conditions promptly and effectively.
  • Prepare and package cash orders for commercial clients, ensuring accuracy, proper documentation, and secure hand-off procedures.
  • Inspect, clean, and perform basic maintenance on currency processing equipment to ensure optimal performance and minimize downtime.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of all client information, transaction details, and internal security procedures.
  • Securely store and manage other valuable assets, such as negotiable instruments, sensitive documents, and safe deposit box keys.

Secondary Functions

  • Assist in the training and onboarding of new vault personnel, demonstrating proper procedures and security protocols.
  • Manage and organize vault supplies, including straps, bags, seals, and other materials, and place orders as needed.
  • Support management during internal and external audits by providing necessary documentation, logs, and transaction records.
  • Collaborate with other operational departments, such as branch banking and ATM servicing, to resolve cash-related inquiries and discrepancies.
  • Generate and review daily operational reports, summarizing transaction volumes, inventory levels, and any balancing issues for management review.
  • Participate in emergency preparedness drills and respond to security alerts as directed by established protocols.
  • Cross-train in adjacent operational roles to provide coverage and support for the broader team as business needs dictate.

Hard Skills (Technical)

  • Cash Handling Expertise: Demonstrated ability to accurately count, manage, and reconcile large volumes of cash and coin.
  • 10-Key Data Entry: High proficiency and speed (e.g., 8,000+ KPH) in 10-key by touch for numerical data input.
  • Currency Counter Operation: Experience operating high-speed currency sorters and counters (e.g., Glory, DeLaRue).
  • Banking Software Proficiency: Familiarity with vault management systems, teller platforms, or related financial software.
  • Microsoft Office Suite: Competency in using MS Excel for tracking and reconciliation and MS Outlook for communication.
  • Regulatory Knowledge: Basic understanding of banking regulations, including Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) and AML principles.

Education & Experience

Educational Background

Minimum Education:

Experience Requirements

Typical Experience Range: 1-3 years of experience in a high-volume cash handling role.

Preferred: Previous experience in a bank vault, cash-in-transit (CIT) company, casino cage, or similar highly-regulated, secure environment is strongly preferred.
