Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Execute the complete or partial assembly of vehicles, installing mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic components according to detailed engineering drawings and build sheets.
- Perform bespoke vehicle conversions and modifications, fitting specialized equipment such as racking, telematics systems, auxiliary lighting, and winches.
- Interpret complex technical blueprints, wiring diagrams, and schematics to ensure accurate installation and integration of all parts and systems.
- Mount and install major sub-assemblies, including engines, transmissions, axles, and suspension components, ensuring correct alignment and torque specifications.
- Conduct comprehensive pre-delivery inspections (PDI) and functional tests on completed vehicles to guarantee they meet all quality, safety, and client requirements.
- Fit interior and exterior trim, body panels, windows, and accessories, ensuring a high-quality finish and precise fitment.
- Install and troubleshoot vehicle hydraulic and pneumatic systems, including pumps, valves, and control circuits for equipment like cranes or lifts.
- Carry out diagnostic checks using specialized software and equipment to identify and rectify mechanical or electrical faults post-assembly.
- Perform fabrication tasks, including cutting, drilling, and basic welding of brackets and mounts required for custom installations.
- Route, connect, and secure electrical wiring harnesses for lighting, communication, and onboard power systems, ensuring all connections are safe and reliable.
- Apply decals, livery, and branding to vehicles with precision, following corporate or client-specific visual guidelines.
- Handle and fit a wide variety of materials including steel, aluminum, composites, and plastics, using appropriate tools and techniques.
- Ensure all work performed complies with relevant industry standards, road safety regulations, and manufacturer guidelines.
- Diagnose and resolve any fitting issues or component clashes that arise during the assembly process, proposing effective solutions.
- Conduct road tests on completed vehicles to assess performance, handling, and to identify any noise, vibration, or harshness (NVH) issues.
Secondary Functions
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment, adhering to all company health and safety (H&S) policies and procedures.
- Accurately complete all necessary job cards, service reports, and quality documentation for each vehicle build.
- Assist in managing the inventory of parts and consumables, reporting low stock levels to the workshop supervisor or parts department.
- Participate in continuous improvement workshops and team meetings to help enhance production processes, quality standards, and workshop efficiency.
- Provide guidance and mentorship to apprentices and junior members of the fitting team, sharing technical knowledge and best practices.
