Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Conduct comprehensive fleet maintenance audits and on-site assessments to evaluate current preventive and corrective maintenance practices, asset condition, downtime drivers, parts inventory accuracy, and labor utilization; produce a prioritized improvement roadmap with ROI analysis.
  • Lead root-cause failure analyses (RCFA) on repeat vehicle failures and warranty issues using structured problem-solving methodologies (5 Whys, Fishbone, FMEA) and recommend durable corrective actions to eliminate chronic defects.
  • Design and implement preventive maintenance (PM) schedules and service intervals based on OEM recommendations, real-world telematics/diagnostic data, utilization patterns, and environmental operating conditions to optimize MTBF and reduce MTTR.
  • Develop predictive maintenance frameworks by integrating telematics, OEM diagnostic codes, engine ECM data, and third-party sensor data to enable condition-based service triggering and minimize unplanned breakdowns.
  • Establish and monitor key maintenance KPIs (e.g., downtime hours, mean time to repair, cost per mile, parts fill rate, labor hours per asset) and deliver monthly performance dashboards and executive summaries to stakeholders.
  • Create and standardize maintenance procedures, service checklists, technical bulletins, and SOPs to ensure consistent repair quality, regulatory compliance, and efficient technician workflows across multiple locations.
  • Manage spare parts strategy and inventory optimization—define critical parts lists (critical vs expendable), lead-time reduction initiatives, and vendor-managed inventory proposals to reduce stockouts and carrying costs.
  • Provide technical guidance and vendor evaluation for repair shops, OEM service centers, and third-party maintenance providers; negotiate service level agreements, warranty extensions, and labor rates to control outsourcing costs.
  • Design total cost of ownership (TCO) and lifecycle replacement models for vehicle groups, including CAPEX planning, residual value analysis, and replacement triggers informed by maintenance spend, reliability trends, and operational needs.
  • Pilot and scale reliability improvement projects (e.g., scheduled rebuilds, component retrofits, loyalty to upgraded components) to extend asset life, lower per-mile maintenance costs, and improve fleet availability metrics.
  • Lead cross-functional workshops and stakeholder engagements to align maintenance strategy with operations, safety, procurement, and finance; translate technical recommendations into budgeted projects and measurable business cases.
  • Implement and configure CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management Systems) best practices—asset hierarchies, work order workflows, labor reporting, PM triggers, BOMs, and KPI reporting—to increase data fidelity and maintenance throughput.
  • Oversee warranty recovery and OEM claim processes: document failures, manage claim submissions, and pursue recoveries to reduce net repair costs and leverage OEM support for recurring issues.
  • Deliver hands-on technician training programs and train-the-trainer curricula for diagnostic best practices, vehicle-specific systems (e.g., DEF, SCR, hybrid drivetrains), safety protocols, and proper use of diagnostic tools.
  • Provide on-site emergency response support during major incidents or fleet outages, coordinating triage, temporary repairs, and recovery logistics to restore critical vehicles quickly and safely.
  • Advise on regulatory compliance and safety programs relevant to vehicle maintenance, such as DOT inspections, emissions testing, hazardous materials handling, and OSHA-based shop safety procedures.
  • Evaluate and recommend diagnostic tools, shop equipment, lifts, and tooling standards required to support recommended maintenance strategies while optimizing shop footprint and capital spend.
  • Prepare detailed technical reports, specifications, and RFPs for outsourced maintenance services, component rebuild contracts, and telematics integrations with clear acceptance criteria and SLA metrics.
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives using Lean and Kaizen methods in maintenance shops—targeting throughput, first-time-fix rate, turnaround time, and warranty cost reduction.
  • Coordinate parts sourcing, remanufacturing options, and rebuild programs to drive cost-effective repairs and support sustainability objectives (remanufactured cores, emissions-compliant components).
  • Serve as subject matter expert (SME) for electrified and alternative-fuel vehicle maintenance practices—advising on high-voltage safety, battery diagnostics, regenerative braking systems, and charging infrastructure impacts on maintenance.
  • Conduct fleet benchmarking analyses against industry peers and best practices to identify performance gaps and set realistic improvement targets for reliability, cost, and safety.

Educational Background

Minimum Education:
