Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Safely and proficiently operate a diverse range of company-owned vehicles, such as cargo vans, shuttle buses, or light-duty trucks, across designated routes in various traffic and weather conditions.
  • Execute pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections with meticulous attention to detail, documenting and reporting any mechanical issues, safety concerns, or damage in accordance with company protocols.
  • Adhere strictly to all state and federal traffic laws, transportation regulations (including DOT where applicable), and internal company safety policies to ensure an incident-free record.
  • Manage and maintain a precise delivery and pickup schedule, planning routes effectively to optimize for time, efficiency, and fuel consumption while adapting to unforeseen delays like traffic or construction.
  • Securely load and unload cargo, materials, or equipment, utilizing proper handling techniques and equipment (like dollies or pallet jacks) to prevent damage to goods and property.
  • Provide exceptional customer service during interactions with clients, passengers, and vendors, maintaining a professional demeanor and representing the company in a positive light.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records, including daily driving logs, mileage reports, fuel receipts, and delivery confirmation paperwork, submitting them in a timely manner.
  • Ensure the cleanliness and general upkeep of the assigned vehicle, both interior and exterior, to present a professional image and maintain a safe operating environment.
  • Communicate effectively and professionally with the dispatch team, providing regular updates on location, progress, and any potential delays or route deviations.
  • Monitor vehicle performance and fluid levels (fuel, oil, coolant, etc.) during operations, taking appropriate action to refuel or top-off fluids as needed to ensure vehicle reliability.
  • Assist passengers with boarding, de-boarding, and handling of luggage or personal items in a courteous and helpful manner, ensuring their safety and comfort.
  • Navigate routes efficiently using GPS devices, maps, and other navigational tools, while also relying on local knowledge to find the most effective paths.
  • Respond appropriately to and report any accidents, incidents, or vehicle breakdowns immediately to management, following established emergency procedures.
  • Conduct routine inventory checks of vehicle supplies and safety equipment, such as first-aid kits, fire extinguishers, and emergency tools, ensuring all are present and functional.
  • Operate on-board communication systems, such as two-way radios or mobile data terminals, to maintain constant contact with the home base or dispatch center.

Required Skills & Competencies

Hard Skills (Technical)

  • Valid Driver's License: Possession of a valid state-issued driver's license with the appropriate class and endorsements for the vehicle type being operated.
  • Clean Driving Record: A verifiable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) free of major violations, demonstrating a history of safe and responsible driving.
  • Vehicle Inspection: Proficient in conducting thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections to identify and report potential mechanical or safety issues.
  • GPS & Navigation: Skilled in using modern GPS devices, smartphone navigation apps, and traditional maps to plan and follow routes efficiently.
  • Knowledge of Traffic Laws: Comprehensive understanding of local, state, and federal Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations and traffic laws.
  • Basic Mechanical Knowledge: Ability to perform minor vehicle checks and maintenance, such as monitoring tire pressure, checking fluid levels, and identifying warning indicators.
