Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Act as the single point of accountability for the vehicle program, leading and orchestrating cross-functional teams (Engineering, Design, Supply Chain, Quality, Manufacturing) through the entire development lifecycle, from concept to post-launch support.
  • Develop, maintain, and execute the master program timeline, meticulously integrating all sub-team schedules, identifying the critical path, and ensuring key milestones and gateway reviews are met.
  • Own and manage the program's "iron triangle," rigorously balancing scope, schedule, and budget to deliver against the approved business case and executive expectations.
  • Champion the vehicle's product vision and customer requirements, ensuring all functional team deliverables, technical specifications, and design choices align with the program's strategic goals and brand promise.
  • Establish, control, and report on the program's comprehensive budget, including all capital expenditures (CapEx), operational expenses (OpEx), tooling investment, and piece costs.
  • Proactively identify, assess, and develop robust mitigation plans for all program risks, including technical feasibility, supply chain disruptions, manufacturing challenges, and commercial viability.
  • Serve as the primary conduit for program communication, presenting clear and concise status updates, risk assessments, and critical decisions to the executive leadership team.
  • Drive the resolution of complex, cross-functional issues and roadblocks, making decisive trade-off decisions that balance technical, financial, and timing impacts.
  • Lead the program team through the formal Vehicle Development Process (VDP) or New Product Introduction (NPI) process, ensuring all phase-gate deliverables are met with high quality.
  • Direct the Bill of Materials (BOM) maturation process, leading cost-down initiatives and facilitating Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) workshops to optimize the product.
  • Oversee the supplier sourcing and selection strategy in partnership with the supply chain team, ensuring the supply base is capable of meeting long-term quality, volume, and cost targets.
  • Manage the engineering change management (ECR/ECN) process, evaluating the holistic impact of changes on cost, timing, quality, and vehicle performance.
  • Direct the program's launch readiness activities, coordinating with plant operations, quality, and logistics teams to ensure a smooth, vertical ramp-up to mass production.
  • Define and track program-level Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), including vehicle cost, mass, quality targets (R/1000), and other critical vehicle attributes.
  • Ensure the vehicle program meets all global regulatory, safety, and environmental compliance requirements for all target markets.
  • Foster a high-performance, collaborative, and accountable culture within the program team, motivating members to overcome challenges and achieve collective success.
  • Direct the build, validation, and testing phases for all prototype and pre-production units, driving the timely resolution of any discovered issues.
  • Act as the main point of contact and manage relationships with key external partners, joint ventures, and critical Tier-1 suppliers.

  • Support the creation of business cases and feasibility studies for new or adjacent product opportunities.
  • Prepare and deliver compelling program overviews and deep dives for board meetings, investor calls, and major internal town halls.

Required Skills & Competencies

Hard Skills (Technical)

  • Automotive Development Process Mastery: Deep, expert-level knowledge of gated Vehicle Development Processes (VDP/NPI/GPDS), from concept to launch.
  • Financial Acumen: Ability to build and manage multi-hundred-million-dollar budgets, understand cost waterfalls, perform ROI analysis, and articulate the financial health of the program.
  • Program Management Tools: Advanced proficiency with integrated program management software such as Jira, Confluence, MS Project, and Smartsheet.
  • Product Lifecycle Management (PLM): Working knowledge of PLM systems (e.g., Teamcenter, 3DEXPERIENCE, Windchill) for managing BOM and CAD data.
  • Automotive Quality Systems: Solid understanding of automotive quality methodologies and standards, including APQP, PPAP, FMEA, and problem-resolution frameworks (e.g., 8D).
  • Supply Chain & Manufacturing Principles: Strong familiarity with supply chain management, logistics, and lean manufacturing principles as they relate to vehicle production.

Education & Experience

Educational Background

Minimum Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree in an engineering discipline or a related technical field.
