Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Proactively engage with and warmly greet all customers entering the showroom or dealership lot, establishing rapport and creating a welcoming, low-pressure environment.
  • Execute a thorough, consultative needs analysis by asking insightful questions and actively listening to understand each customer's specific lifestyle, driving habits, feature priorities, and budget constraints.
  • Develop and maintain an encyclopedic knowledge of the dealership's new and pre-owned vehicle inventory, including models, features, specifications, option packages, and competitive advantages.
  • Conduct compelling and informative vehicle presentations and "walk-arounds," dynamically demonstrating features and benefits that directly align with the customer's identified needs.
  • Facilitate engaging and safe test drives, guiding the experience to highlight the vehicle's performance, comfort, and key technology features in a real-world setting.
  • Skillfully manage the price discussion and negotiation process with integrity, presenting purchase or lease figures clearly and working to find a mutually agreeable outcome.
  • Collaborate closely with Sales Managers to structure deals, present counter-offers, and overcome customer objections in a professional and transparent manner.
  • Guide customers through the initial stages of the financing process, gathering necessary information and providing a seamless transition to the Finance & Insurance (F&I) department.
  • Master and utilize the dealership's Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system daily to meticulously log all customer interactions, track prospects, and manage follow-up activities.
  • Coordinate the final vehicle delivery, ensuring the car is detailed and prepared to factory standards and performing a final feature overview to ensure the customer is comfortable with their new vehicle.
  • Generate new business by actively prospecting, cultivating a referral network, and engaging with past customers to encourage repeat business.
  • Stay current with all manufacturer-provided training, product updates, and certification requirements to maintain expert-level product knowledge.
  • Effectively manage your sales pipeline, from initial lead to final sale and post-delivery follow-up, ensuring no opportunity is missed.

Secondary Functions

  • Assist in maintaining the pristine appearance of the showroom floor and vehicle lot, ensuring vehicles are clean, properly displayed, and presentable at all times.
  • Participate actively in all sales meetings, training sessions, and dealership events, contributing to a positive and collaborative team culture.
  • Conduct post-sale follow-up calls and emails to ensure customer satisfaction, answer any lingering questions, and solidify the long-term relationship.
  • Address and resolve customer concerns or complaints promptly and professionally, escalating to management when necessary to ensure a positive outcome.
  • Support marketing initiatives by engaging with leads generated from the dealership website, third-party sites, and social media platforms in a timely manner.
  • Evaluate trade-in vehicles by gathering accurate information on condition, mileage, and features to assist the used car department in the appraisal process.
  • Remain informed about current market trends, competitor promotions, and industry news to better position dealership products and services.

  • CRM Software Proficiency: Expertise in using automotive CRM systems (e.g., VinSolutions, DealerSocket, eLeads) to manage leads, track customer interactions, and schedule follow-ups.
  • Product Knowledge: Ability to quickly learn and recall detailed technical specifications, model trims, option packages, and competitive differentiators for a wide range of vehicles.
  • Financial Acumen: Basic understanding of automotive financing principles, including loans, leases, interest rates, and the factors that influence payment calculations.

Educational Background

Minimum Education:

Experience Requirements

Typical Experience Range: 1-3 years of experience in a direct customer-facing sales or service role is highly desirable. Many dealerships are willing to train motivated individuals who demonstrate a strong aptitude for sales and customer care.

Preferred: Previous experience in automotive sales is a significant asset. Experience in high-ticket retail, real estate, mobile phone sales, or other commission-based sales roles is also strongly preferred.
