Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Lead, mentor, and continuously train a team of vehicle sales consultants, fostering a culture of success, accountability, and professional growth.
- Develop and implement robust sales strategies and processes to achieve monthly and annual sales forecasts and dealership gross profit objectives.
- Actively manage the new and used vehicle inventory, including strategic pricing, online and on-lot merchandising, and controlling inventory turnover.
- Forecast aggressive yet realistic monthly, quarterly, and annual sales goals for the department and individual team members.
- Work directly on the sales floor, actively engaging with customers to structure deals, handle negotiations, and provide final approval on transactions.
- Champion and monitor Customer Satisfaction Index (CSI) scores, implementing procedures to ensure an exceptional buying experience and drive customer loyalty.
- "Desk" deals by structuring automotive transactions with optimal profitability, including financing, leasing, and back-end F&I product sales.
- Oversee the vehicle appraisal process, ensuring trade-in vehicles are valued accurately and competitively to secure deals and manage used inventory acquisition.
- Conduct daily and weekly sales meetings to communicate goals, review performance against KPIs, and provide targeted coaching and motivation.
- Ensure strict compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations, as well as manufacturer policies, governing vehicle sales and financing.
- Master and manage the dealership's CRM system (e.g., VinSolutions, DealerSocket) to track leads, monitor sales activities, and analyze team performance.
- Collaborate with the marketing team to create and execute effective advertising campaigns, promotional events, and digital marketing initiatives to drive floor traffic.
- Manage the sales floor to guarantee optimal staffing, a professional dealership environment, and a positive, seamless customer journey from entry to delivery.
- Spearhead the recruitment, interviewing, hiring, and comprehensive onboarding process for new sales consultants.
- Review and analyze detailed sales reports, market trends, and competitor activities to identify opportunities and threats, adjusting strategies accordingly.
- Manage departmental budget, control expenses, and ensure financial health and profitability of the vehicle sales operations.
- Ensure the vehicle delivery process is a memorable and positive event for every customer, reinforcing their purchase decision and building long-term relationships.
- Act as the final point of contact for resolving complex customer complaints and issues, protecting the dealership's reputation for integrity and service.
- Administer and oversee the sales team's compensation plans, bonuses, and incentive programs to motivate top performance.
- Develop and maintain strong, productive relationships with OEM representatives, lending institutions, and other external business partners.

Experience Requirements
Typical Experience Range:
- 3-5+ years of experience in automotive sales, with a proven and verifiable track record of high performance.
- At least 1-2 years of experience in a dealership leadership or management role (e.g., F&I Manager, Closer, Assistant Sales Manager).
Preferred:
- 5+ years in a Vehicle Sales Manager or General Sales Manager role within a franchised dealership environment. Experience managing a large team (10+ consultants) is highly desirable.
