Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Actively lead, manage, and motivate a team of new and used vehicle sales consultants by setting clear performance expectations and providing daily coaching to achieve individual and dealership sales targets.
  • Conduct daily and weekly sales meetings to communicate goals, share best practices, review performance metrics, and roll out new manufacturer or dealership promotions.
  • Train and mentor sales staff on the complete sales process, from initial customer greeting and needs assessment to vehicle presentation, test drives, and final delivery.
  • Actively monitor the sales floor to ensure a professional environment and timely, effective engagement with all customers, stepping in to assist with negotiations or close deals when necessary (T.O. process).
  • Track and analyze key performance indicators (KPIs) for the sales team, including unit sales, gross profit per unit, closing ratios, and customer satisfaction (CSI) scores.
  • Develop and implement targeted sales strategies and action plans to address performance gaps and capitalize on market opportunities.
  • Assist in the "desking" of deals, working with sales consultants to structure vehicle purchase agreements that are profitable for the dealership and agreeable to the customer.
  • Maintain a deep understanding of the dealership's new and used vehicle inventory, including features, pricing, and current availability, to assist the sales team and manage floor traffic.
  • Collaborate with the F&I department to ensure a seamless transition for customers and to maximize profitability through the sale of finance, insurance, and after-sale products.
  • Handle and resolve escalated customer complaints or issues with a focus on maintaining high levels of customer satisfaction and retention.
  • Forecast monthly and annual sales volumes and gross profits for the team, reporting on progress and variances to the General Sales Manager.
  • Ensure the sales team consistently utilizes the Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system to log all customer interactions, track leads, and manage follow-up activities effectively.
  • Appraise incoming trade-in vehicles with accuracy, using market data and physical inspection to determine a fair and competitive valuation.
  • Manage the display and merchandising of vehicle inventory on the lot and showroom floor to ensure it is attractive, clean, and optimally positioned to drive customer interest.
  • Recruit, interview, and participate in the hiring and onboarding process for new sales consultants, ensuring a strong cultural fit and potential for success.
  • Enforce all dealership policies and procedures, as well as legal and ethical standards, related to vehicle sales, financing, and customer data privacy.
  • Stay current with manufacturer programs, rebates, and incentives, and ensure the entire sales team is knowledgeable and can communicate them accurately to customers.
  • Foster a competitive yet collaborative team environment that celebrates success and encourages continuous improvement among all team members.
  • Oversee the vehicle delivery process to guarantee that each vehicle is detailed, fueled, and ready for the customer, and that a thorough feature presentation is completed.
  • Monitor market trends, competitor activities, and customer feedback to provide insights and recommendations to senior dealership management.

  • Collaborate with the service and parts departments to ensure a smooth workflow for vehicle pre-delivery inspections (PDIs) and the installation of accessories.
  • Assist the marketing department in developing and evaluating the effectiveness of local advertising campaigns, promotions, and online sales initiatives.
  • Participate in inventory management meetings to provide input on stocking levels, model mix, and aging inventory based on sales floor traffic and customer demand.
  • Contribute to the organization's overall data strategy by ensuring the sales team's data entry into the CRM is clean, consistent, and reliable.

Required Skills & Competencies

Hard Skills (Technical)

  • CRM Proficiency: Advanced skills in automotive CRM platforms (e.g., VinSolutions, DealerSocket, Elead).
  • Desking & F&I Software: Experience with dealership management systems (DMS) like Reynolds & Reynolds or CDK for structuring deals.
  • Inventory Management Systems: Ability to navigate and utilize inventory management tools (e.g., vAuto, Dealertrack) for pricing and appraising.
  • Financial Acumen: Strong understanding of automotive financing, leasing, gross profit calculations, and sales metrics.

Education & Experience

Educational Background

Minimum Education:

  • Valid Driver’s License and a clean driving record.
