Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

Conduct comprehensive multi-point vehicle inspections to identify necessary maintenance or repairs, documenting findings accurately for service advisors and customers.
Perform routine maintenance services including oil changes, filter replacements, fluid exchanges (coolant, transmission, brake), and tire rotations in accordance with manufacturer specifications.
Diagnose complex vehicle performance problems using advanced diagnostic equipment, onboard computer systems (OBD-II), and manual testing procedures.
Execute a wide range of repairs on vehicle systems, including engine, transmission, electrical, steering, suspension, braking, and climate control systems.
Repair or replace worn, damaged, or defective parts such as brake pads, rotors, water pumps, radiators, alternators, starters, and suspension components.
Perform wheel alignment and balancing procedures to ensure proper vehicle handling, safety, and tire longevity.
Address drivability issues by diagnosing and repairing fuel injection, ignition, and emission control systems.
Utilize service manuals, wiring diagrams, and technical bulletins to follow proper repair procedures and stay current with manufacturer updates.
Test-drive vehicles before and after repairs to verify customer concerns, confirm the effectiveness of the repair, and ensure the vehicle operates correctly.
Communicate effectively with service advisors to provide clear explanations of diagnoses, required repairs, estimated timeframes, and necessary parts.
Maintain detailed and accurate records of all services and repairs performed, including parts used and labor time for each job order.
Disassemble and reassemble engine and transmission components to perform major repairs or complete overhauls when necessary.
Diagnose and repair vehicle electronic systems, including lighting, instrumentation, and onboard entertainment and navigation systems.
Perform state-mandated vehicle inspections, ensuring all safety and emissions standards are met.
Keep up-to-date with the latest automotive technology, repair techniques, and diagnostic tools through ongoing training and professional development.

Secondary Functions

Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment in the service bay, adhering to all company safety protocols and procedures.
Manage and maintain workshop equipment, performing regular checks and reporting any malfunctions or needs for new tools.
Assist in mentoring and providing guidance to apprentice technicians, sharing knowledge and promoting a collaborative team environment.
