Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Develop, implement, and champion a comprehensive, enterprise-wide vendor management strategy and governance framework that aligns with the company's financial and operational goals.
  • Lead the full vendor lifecycle, from initial market research, due diligence, and sourcing to contract negotiation, onboarding, performance monitoring, and strategic off-boarding.
  • Establish and enforce a robust vendor performance management system, defining and tracking Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), Service Level Agreements (SLAs), and scorecards to drive accountability.
  • Cultivate and maintain strong, C-level and executive-level relationships with critical and strategic vendor partners to ensure strategic alignment and drive mutual value.
  • Act as the primary point of executive escalation for resolving complex vendor-related issues, disputes, and performance shortfalls in a timely and effective manner.
  • Direct high-stakes, multi-million dollar contract negotiations, collaborating closely with Legal, Finance, and IT Security to secure optimal terms, pricing, and risk posture.
  • Oversee the company's entire vendor portfolio to identify opportunities for consolidation, cost savings, risk reduction, and process improvement.
  • Conduct regular Strategic Business Reviews (SBRs) with key vendors to assess performance, review technology and service roadmaps, and identify opportunities for innovation.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of vendor managers and analysts, providing coaching, setting clear objectives, and fostering a culture of excellence and accountability.
  • Develop and manage the departmental budget for the vendor management office, ensuring resource allocation aligns with strategic priorities.
  • Partner with cross-functional leaders across the organization (e.g., IT, Marketing, Operations, HR) to understand their current and future vendor requirements and challenges.
  • Implement and manage a comprehensive vendor risk assessment program to identify and mitigate financial, operational, cybersecurity, compliance, and reputational risks.
  • Ensure all vendor activities and contracts adhere to corporate policies, ethical standards, and relevant legal and regulatory requirements (e.g., GDPR, CCPA, SOX).
  • Drive the selection, implementation, and adoption of a Vendor Management System (VMS) or procurement software to streamline processes and improve data visibility.
  • Analyze market trends, M&A activity, industry benchmarks, and emerging technologies to inform sourcing strategies and maintain a competitive advantage.
  • Standardize the organization’s processes for Request for Proposal (RFP), Request for Information (RFI), and vendor selection to ensure fairness and transparency.
