Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Lead all merchandise room operations before, during and after events, including room setup, inventory staging, POS station setup, merchandise displays, and secure storage to ensure a streamlined, professional operation and timely sales launches.
  • Own inventory planning and replenishment: forecast SKU-level demand by event type using historical sales, upcoming artist/buyer profiles and pre-sale indicators, and place orders to meet sales goals while minimizing overstock.
  • Manage point-of-sale (POS) operations and cash-handling procedures: configure terminals, supervise transactions, reconcile cash and card receipts, troubleshoot payment issues and ensure nightly deposit accuracy in line with audit controls.
  • Hire, train and schedule temporary and permanent merchandise staff (supervisors, cashiers, floor sellers, stockroom attendants), develop role-specific training materials, and conduct pre-event briefings to deliver consistent customer service and operational efficiency.
  • Implement loss prevention protocols and secure inventory management procedures: maintain access control, track consignment agreements, log serial numbers or consignment counts, and execute frequent cycle counts to reduce shrinkage.
  • Administer artist/tour and vendor relationships: coordinate merchandise delivery, sign consignment/settlement paperwork, enforce rider or contract requirements, and serve as venue point of contact for merchandising partners.
  • Oversee pricing accuracy, ticketed/limited edition item controls, tagging and labeling processes, ensuring all SKUs are merchandised and priced correctly for each event and channel.
  • Design and maintain efficient stockroom layout, binning and shelf organization to optimize pick rates during high-volume event peaks and enable fast restocking onto the sales floor.
  • Run end-of-night and post-event reconciliations: prepare detailed sales reports, reconcile POS logs to deposits, identify variances, and propose corrective actions for inventory or cash discrepancies.
  • Maintain merchandising budgets and P&L inputs: track cost of goods sold, margin by product category, shrink metrics and promotional spend to support executive reporting and pricing strategy.
  • Coordinate with production, load-in and logistics teams on pre-event deliveries, load-out plans, back-of-house access, and scheduling to minimize handling damage and lost stock during move-in/out.
  • Execute visual merchandising and product placement strategies that maximize impulse sales, with seasonal and event-specific displays, racks and POS promotional placement tailored to crowd demographics.
  • Support online and on-site fulfillment integration: manage pick/pack workflows for online pre-orders, coordinate shipping logistics for remote orders, and ensure accurate inventory synchronization between e-commerce and in-venue systems.
  • Ensure compliance with local regulations and licensing (sales tax collection, resale certificates, venue vendor permits) and maintain proper documentation for audits and artist settlements.
  • Prepare and deliver KPI and summary reports to venue operations and commercial leadership including sales per event, units per transaction, average transaction value, SKU velocity and inventory turnover.
  • Lead implementation and maintenance of merchandising systems (inventory management/WMS, barcode scanners, POS integration) and recommend technology improvements to increase speed and accuracy.
  • Manage merchandising lifecycle: markdowns, returns, restocks, disposals and donations in accordance with company policy, artist agreements and local regulations.
  • Conduct pre- and post-event inspections and quality control checks for product condition, packaging integrity, and POS equipment readiness to ensure minimal disruption during event peak hours.
  • Oversee merchandise transfers and inter-venue inventory movements, coordinating logistics, shipping documentation and receiving verification to preserve chain-of-custody accuracy.
  • Drive promotions and cross-sell strategies with marketing and sponsorship teams; support limited-time drops, VIP merchandise sales, meet-and-greet packages and sponsorship activations.
  • Serve as the point person during incident response in the merchandise room (cash discrepancies, customer disputes, theft incidents), documenting occurrences and escalating as needed to security or management.

Secondary Functions

  • Maintain up-to-date merchandise stocking guides, SKU maps and visual merchandising templates to ensure consistency across events and building seasons.

Required Skills & Competencies

Hard Skills (Technical)
