Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Conceptualize, design, and meticulously document core gameplay mechanics, from combat and character progression to in-game economies, ensuring they are engaging and support the overall creative vision.
  • Create and maintain comprehensive Game Design Documents (GDDs) and feature specifications that clearly communicate design intent to the entire development team.
  • Collaborate closely with engineers to prototype, script, and implement gameplay features, systems, and logic using tools like Unreal Engine's Blueprint or Unity's visual scripting tools.
  • Design, build, and iterate on compelling levels, missions, and quests that provide a balanced and engaging player journey with strong pacing and narrative integration.
  • Develop and balance complex game systems, such as player progression, itemization, and AI behaviors, using spreadsheets, data analysis, and in-game tuning.
  • Champion the user experience (UX) by designing intuitive user interfaces (UI), clear player feedback systems, and accessible control schemes.
  • Actively participate in and analyze feedback from playtesting sessions, translating qualitative and quantitative data into actionable design improvements.
  • Pitch new game concepts, features, and content ideas to team leads and key stakeholders with clarity and passion.
  • Work within the technical constraints of the engine and hardware platforms, finding creative solutions to design challenges.
  • Iterate relentlessly on gameplay loops and features based on hands-on testing and team feedback to achieve the highest level of quality and "fun factor."
  • Author and implement narrative content, dialogue, and in-game text that enriches the world and advances the story.

  • Systems Design & Balancing: Proven ability to design, model, and balance complex, interconnected systems (e.g., economies, combat stats, progression curves) using tools like Excel or Google Sheets.
