Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions

- Select, adapt, and arrange musical scores and vocal charts to best suit the vocal abilities of the cast and the overall artistic vision of the production.
- Teach complex vocal harmonies, intricate rhythms, and diverse musical styles to performers with a wide range of experience, ensuring a cohesive ensemble sound.
- Serve as the ultimate authority on all vocal and musical matters within the production, providing clear, constructive, and motivational feedback to all cast members.
- Prepare and conduct the vocal ensemble for all performances, technical rehearsals, and pre-show warm-ups, maintaining peak performance quality throughout the show's run.
- Proactively monitor and manage the vocal health of the entire cast, implementing preventative strategies and providing resources for vocal care and recovery.
- Research historical performance practices, dialect coaching, and stylistic conventions pertinent to the musical's era and genre to ensure an authentic interpretation.
- Create and distribute essential learning materials, including customized rehearsal tracks, annotated sheet music, and phonetic guides for foreign language text.
- Work closely with the Sound Design team to establish optimal vocal balance, microphone technique, and audio foldback for both rehearsals and live performances.
- Oversee the training and preparation of understudies and swings, ensuring they are performance-ready to cover principal roles and ensemble tracks at a moment's notice.
Secondary Functions
- Participate actively in high-level production meetings, design presentations, and long-term strategic planning sessions as the head of the vocal department.
- Manage the music department budget, including the procurement of scores, software, and the hiring of rehearsal accompanists and guest musicians.
